#386 Access external MicroSD card under Android 7.1.2

I am a very happy Coolreader user since years on many different devices. Thanks for this gem of an ebook reader!

Right now I have a new phone running Android 7.1.2 (Nougat; Lineageos 14.1 in my case) and unfortunately it seems like I can't get Coolreader to be able to access the external MicroSD card (on which I have always kept my ebooks). Other programs on the phone can access the MicroSD. Beforehand I used Android 5.1.1 and I had no problems using the external MicroSD with Coolreader there.

Is this (Coolreader not being able to access extSD on Android Nougat) a known problem?
Can this be solved?
Should I provide some further information?

I am long time Coolreader user on Android devices, aslo without problems until Android 7. I have a new Samsung Galaxy Tab A with Android 7, and I also cannot access the external SD card. Selecting that option in the file browser only brings up the list of internal storage directories. This makes this application totally UNUSABLE now.
