Hi Ryan, I've installed Codestriker on both Redhat and Debian-based systems, using both MySQL and PostgreSQL. I don't think there is any preferred distribution really - at the end of the day, you'll still need to install some extra Perl modules as a part of the installation. Some distributions, such as Debian, will have packages for these Perl modules, however most people will just use PPM (the Perl package manager) to install the missing modules. Hi. I'd like to give Codestriker a try, against my current SCM (Perforce.) I'm wondering if there is any particular distro of Linux that has gained a reputation for being the most headache-free, with respect to installing & configuring the current release version of Codestriker. (For instance: already comes with versions of apache, MySQL, etc. that are known to be compatible with Codestriker out-of-the-box.) Personal anecdotes from other users are welcome, particularly those involving Perforce. I am a bit biased in favor of MySQL over PostgreSQL, but only because I have no experience with the latter. Thanks. (I searched the manual and codestriker-user archive for 'distro' and 'distribution' before asking this. I did see specific mentions of Redhat in the manual, but not in any context that I would consider to be an answer to my question above.) </ryan> |

This indicates an apache configuration issue - Codestriker can't locate the codestriker.css file. Check your error/access files for some clues. Cheers, David |

I believe I have solved both problems. Since I had two installations on the same machine, I gave the 1.9.2 install a different path in httpd.conf, so that I could still access both of them. Therefore, I needed to define codestriker_css in the config file. Since I did not, I was getting a header that did not reference the .css file or the .js files correctly. No .css explains the colorization. I suspect the latency problems were related to this somehow. It also explains why there were a few other anomalies, such as the fact that the 'help' link did not take me to help. I may be ready to upgrade finally!! We have a 1.9.1 deployed for general use on our CVS server. I installed 1.9.2 recently on the same server. It also references the same database. The 1.9.2 installation is currently only for my testing purposes, not generally available. I am ready to switch over, except for two issues. 1. The response time from the 1.9.2 installation is awful. Does anyone know why there should be such a difference? Is there anything I can do to determine the cause of the latency? 2. Also, the 1.9.2 installation is not colorizing the pages, including the topic list (no alternate dark/light), the diff (no colors for removed/changed/added), etc. I have been over the config files and cannot see any differences besides new comments added in 1.9.2. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, David |

Any chance there are plans for incorporating an LDAP lookup when the user enters his reviewers or cc recipients? This would be a very nice feature. Thanks, David |

Now it is working! I changed the field "Timeout" in httpd.conf from 300=20 to 600 and could create a topic with a 2.4M unidiff file. So the solution was: 1. Change max_allowed_packet in my.cnf from 1M to 32M; 2. Change Timeout in httpd.conf from 300 to 600. Hi all, I am trying to install Codestriker on a windows environment and have some issues, and I hope that someone more can provide some pointers on where the problem might be. Firstly, a description of the setup. We have a IIS 6.0 server setup on http://virtual2, other components are ActivePerl5.8.8.819 and mysql5.0.27, Codestriker is 1.9.2. The problem... When I go to http://virtual/codestriker/codestriker.pl, the topic list page shows up on my web browser. However all the links on the page has incorrect urls. Eg, the link for "Create new topic" has the url of http://virtual2/?action=3Dcreate instead of http://virtual2/codestriker/codestriker.pl?action=3Dcreate. Has anyone come across this problem before and what it might be? Codestriker doesn't support Mantis out of the box, but adding support for it should be simple. Follow the other examples in lib/Codestriker/BugDB You should be able to understand what needs to be done, but looking at BugzillaConnection.pm and FlysprayConnection.pm, which connect with the Bugzilla and Flyspray bug-trackers. Happy to help if you need a hand. Cheers, David |

Hi, We are evaluating codestriker. Our current issue tracking system is Mantis (www.mantisbt.org). Does anyone know if codestriker has be with mantis? There is a rough limit of 20 megabytes at the moment for the size of the
HTTP POST, so you really shouldn't be hitting this.
Have you checked the apache error log file? Perhaps the database has
had an issue with the size of the topic text.
Cheers,

Hi people, I am using Codestriker 1.9.2, Apache 2.0.58 and MySQL 4.1.21 in a Gentoo=20 Linux box. When I try to create topics using big unidiff files (1Mb or more), the=20 system shows a blank page and the topic is not created. No error=20 messages are displayed. Is there any limitation on the size of the=20 unidiff files? To generate unidiff files I am using CVSNT on Windows XP. When I edit=20 the files making them fit around 900Kb, the topics are created with no=20 problems. Strange - what version of mysql are you using? You probably have done this already, but before doing anything - backup your codestriker database. The default character set which codestriker uses now is utf8. It seems that your current database is set to use latin1_swedish_ci as its collation operation. Perhaps you need to get a mysql shell, and alter the table's collation. ALTER TABLE topic DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci" Check out http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/charset-table.html for more details. You might also need to do something like: ALTER TABLE topic CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci; Cheers, David |

I'm trying to upgrade from 1.9.1 to 1.9.2. I exploded the tarball. Then I modified the .conf file to incorporate the changes I had put in 1.9.1, including pointing to the correct db name. I get the following error when I try to run codestriker.pl: DBD::mysql::db selectrow_array failed: Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation '=' at /var/www/codestriker/codestriker-1.9.2/bin/../lib/Codestriker/Model/Topic.pm line 386. Obviously, I don't want to lose the data in my current 1.9.1 db. What can I do to get it working? |

Hi David, David Carson wrote: > Is there any way to overwrite (or even simply add to) the topic text, > once it has been uploaded? I could not see any way, except perhaps to > obsolete the topic itself. That's correct. You can always delete the topic of course, if you realise your mistake quickly, and then just upload your new one. But if people have already made comments against your topic text, probably best to obsolete it, so you don't lose that information. > Thanks for the tool. Looking forward to getting better acquainted with it. Best of luck - and thanks for your previous message. Cheers, David |
