Hi, As many of you know, this project has lain dormant the majority of its life with small bursts of energy here an there. Well, over the past few weeks things have picked up significantly and are at a record high of activity on the development side. The recent activity is due to one major change to the project that you may or may not know. The project is now being written in C# using Mono (http://go-mono.org, a cross-platform .NET framework replacement) and GTK# (A C# language binding to GTK+). This move keeps Code Connector cross-platform, and embraces a powerful and useful emerging technology. One of the reasons I'm sending out this email is to remind everyone that is subscribed that they are still subscribed. I'm not trying to push people away, just remind you that if you don't want to be here, you may want to unsubscribe. If you are still interested in contributing in any way to Code Connector, please let me know. I would love to work with you. You dont even need to know C# (I didnt until a few weeks ago), as long as you are willing to learn, and since if you are here you probably are good with java, C# will be easy to pick up. Hi all, I would like to announce that the project is no longer going to be written in Java. Code Connector is now going to be written in C++ under Linux and use Gnome for the interface. The reasons are numerous, and this was not an easy decision, but my primary concern is speed; and I'm sure you know why. I have removed everyone (excluding myself) from the project and reset the Sourceforge Trove categorization. I also started work on the C++ implementation, which is in the CVS. If you would like to join development please contact me and I will assign you to the project if I feel you can be of assistance with the new aim of the project. I would just like to say that I am grateful for the assistance I have received in planning thus far. Fortunately, the more-or-less same ideas will apply. And I already have a lot of code, especially on the server side, to use as psudo-code for C++. Just to say something about the recent project hibernation; This project is incredibly important to me, but a number of things have kept me from being able to allocate enough time. I now have more time and know that if I dont push hard now, this project will never make it off the ground. So this project has moved to the front burner. Also, the Linux-native move gives me an added incentive because of my passion for Linux and Gnome. Thank You! Greetings, This message is to address the drought in activity of Code Connector. The pace of the project has slowed in the last few months and I wanted to explain why. I have put out many calls to developers asking for help. Many have responded, yet few took action. When it came time to put in some actual work I found myself alone. So it became apparent that for this project to succeed I must take part for which my skills were not yet fully developed. This is a grand project, requiring skills in networking, server management, and most demanding, advanced Swing. I felt that for me to best tackle these challenges I must first better develop the necessary skills. I was to accomplish this with two new open source projects, LlamaChat (http://www.42llamas.com/LlamaChat) and Webitor (http://joe.tgpr.org/Webitor). LlamaChat was to develop networking and server management, while Webitor was to develop Swing. As of now LlamaChat is reaching maturity with a next release coming out of Beta, and Webitor is about to be released in Alpha. So as you can see I have been quite busy and have not stopped progressing on CodeConnector, however indirect it may be. CodeConnector is far from dead and will soon be picking up more direct activity. I am in this project for the long haul and will be with the project always. The code that is up there is for the server socket data with work on the client side coming soon. I've just added a new member to the team. His name is Muthu Veerappan [mut...@us...] and he is here to help us plan the project. He has extensive knowledge of Java and programming and is going to be a great help. Him and I are currently working on the documentation and specifications, but are absolutely open to suggestions from everyone. I don't want to exclude anyone, so if you are interseted in helping, just let me know. I've gotten some great ideas from people in the forums and would encourage people with ideas to post them there. For those of you who care about this type of thing :) There was a new release of the Linux Kernel today (i think it was today). They're now up to version 2.4.18 (for a stable release) As I'm writing this I'm waiting for the source to compile. If anyone runs linux and hasn't compiled and run their own kernel I would suggest doing so. If you have any questions on the subject (or any other for that matter) let me know :) Bye for now, - Joe |

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say that I've got the site just about ready to be uploaded.
I updated the documentation quite a bit and would suggest that everyone
look at it and let me know what they think. I've just got a few more
sections to write for the "Under the Hood" documentation. (if anyone
would want to write one (or more) of them, i'd be happy to let you )
Something we need to discuss is how we're handling connections/sockets.
I've got some specifications for this in the documentation, but we need
more. The most important is document what information needs to be passed
and how we are going to format this information. This is important
because at least three tasks are dependant on this; the server, the
client connection, and the server connection, and we all need to stay on
the same page.
So far I've got the design and interface specs and feature list at least
started. Whats left to pin down before we start coding is a class list
with skeleton functions, and connection specifications.
I'd also like to make use of Javadoc's in our code, and put them in our
documentation page. I'm going to be writing some templates for this as
well as general document templates.
The sooner we get this planning finished the sooner we can start coding,
which is why everyone's here :)
Am I handling the planning in a way that is desirable? The way it is
going now is that I am writing documentation and asking for feedback.
Would you rather me split up the tasks now and everyone plan for their
own task? Its up to you guys. I would like to do whatever is fastest and
provides the best documentation when it comes to coding.

If anyone is ((a good writer || good at catching (spelling ||
gramatical) errors) && wants to help) {
let me know because I'd like some help proof-reading the
documentation on the site;
}
I just noticed that I may be putting too much in my emails. If I am, let

Hi, Welcome everyone. I just made a lot of changes to the various lists. One of the changes was adding another list [cod...@li...]. Everyone that was registered for the project was added to this list. I was hoping it would save everyone the trouble. I also changed everyones subscribed email address to their sourceforge email address. An Update: I've got the site almost completely finished. All I'm waiting on is the logo ... hint, hint, Mike :) No big hurry because we really have no use for the site yet, but I would like to get things moving. If you have a minute, check out the site. The only section missing pages is the development section, but i'm kindof waiting on that until we get more planning done. This is the temp site URL: http://joe.42llamas.com/cc/index.php I'd like people to test it with various browsers and various connection speeds. If you notice that when you mouse over an item in the menu and it takes considerably longer than the others, let me know because that means an image wasn't pre-loaded as it should have. There are almost 50 images in the menu, so it may take a while to download on non-broadband connections. I can optimize it for slower connections, but would really not want to have to take the time unless its really annoying on slower connections. I don't have access to a modem connection, so if somone could test this for me that would be great. I recently posted documentation on the site, and would like some feedback. It needs quite a bit of editing, but its a good start. I've been seeing some good noise in the form. We've gathered some good ideas, but are still looking for more. There's a project called Quanta Plus [http://quanta.sourceforge.net/] that i'm actually compiling as we speak. It looks like a great html editor. I'm thinking of asking them for a little help with the design of our editor since they've got a great one. Hopefully they can give us some good pointers and suggestions. Thats it for now.
