Hi, Is it possible to load the saved model and run an inference on the model in clus?for example the document had a weather dataset example-once the model is created is it possible to load the model.again and run on another dataset to evaluate performance,if so which method can we use? |

Dear, I have a multi-label regression problem and I want to use RF-PCT (random forest of clustering trees) for that. Actually, I only have tried RF-PCT for classification problems, using the following setting file and this command line: java -jar Clus.jar -forest data.s . So what do I need to change or add to run random forest of regression trees instead ? surely, the voting type and what else ? Hi Bernard, What is going on in the following step?. I have read the supporting papers and the algorithm. In the algorithm , the best split is the one that will maximally reduce the variance reduction and we do that via Ftest for the set of examples before the split and the subgroups after the split. What are 1-10 ,size and the number after the arrow means ? Thanks again Mohamed On 3/21/14, 6:21 AM, "Bernard Zenko" <ber...@ij...> wrote: >Dear Mohamed, > >sorry for late reply. Dear Mohamed, sorry for late reply. I will try to answer what I know and I would like to ask others to correct me, because I'm only familiar with parts of Clus related to rule induction. > * how attributes weights are used in the algorithm? The attribute's weights are meant to put more or less emphasis to specific attributes during the learning phase. How exactly this is done depends on the algorithm and the heuristic used. In case of rule learning, the weights are used for clustering attributes (these are the attributes that are considered during evaluation of clusters, in most cases the clustering attributes are equal to the target attributes). The overall heuristic value consists of components of separate attributes that are weighted by these weights. At the moment the weights are not used for descriptive attributes, e.g., to force certain attributes into condition of rules. As far as I know this is also true for trees, but not necessarily for all heuristics (best to have a look at the code of the specific heuristic to be sure). > * are xval different from "-fold" ? the definition is almost the same > in the guide -xval option means that the entire cross-validation is performed (1x on the whole training data and 10x on each of the folds). -fold, on the other hand, is meant to only run one fold of the cross-validation, i.e., on the fold N. This is useful, e.g., if you want to send each fold to another computer to do the cross-validation in parallel. > how to view the model file that gets created when the prediction > file get created ? This I don' know (never used it myself), but I think that the .model file is in a binary file and can only be read programmatically to load a model. Best to inspect the code if you want to use this. I hope this at least partially answers your questions. Hi All, I have been reading the document about how to use the different settings and variables in the settings and .arff files. Sometimes the description for each field does not give a clear understanding of its usage and there are few examples on the usage of each field or setting. Is there a source for more explanations and possibly more different usage and tuning examples ?. I have also looked at the data directory that comes with the package. They are good examples but lack the description of the indicated behaviors associated for the indicated settings or attributes and that is I what I am looking for. Thanks Mohamed |

Hi,
I am looking to evaluate a Random Forst Predictive Clustering Tree (RF-PCT) and a Bagging of PCT on some multi-label datasets and for that i need your help please.
Below, a part of the main class (Clus.java). The vector args includes the required parameters for running an algorithm. It is also possible to fill in the vector right after (in green color) but which are the entries of the vector necessary to be able to run RF-PCT and Bagging of PCT ?
Thanks so much,

Pascal,
many thanks for the workaround instructions, they are sure useful until
we get this fixed.
The output to the console during learning was meant for debugging
purposes. You can influence the amount of output a bit with the
"[General] Verbose" setting in the *.s file, but I'm afraid that not all
learning algorithms use this setting in a uniform way (if at all). In
tree learning, the values of test evaluation heuristic are being output
by default.
Cheers, Bernard

Hi Bernard,
I wrote the script below [code segment 1] to convert my ARFF file from
0-based to 1-based, but I was still having problems because my label
attributes were not being read properly. I have 11 categorical labels with
the possible values {0, 1}. Weka generates a sparse ARFF file where only
the 1 values are actually written to file.
The only way I could get Clus to work properly was to convert my dataset to
non-sparse before exporting my ARFF file [code segment 2].
I hope this helps someone else out in the future.
Ciao,
Pascal
p.s. Is there any documentation regarding the information that gets dumped
to the console when generating trees? It seems only the contents of the
output file are (somewhat) documented?
[code segment 1]
#!/bin/bash
cat $1 | gawk '
BEGIN { FS = ","; found_data="FALSE" }; {
if(found_data == "FALSE") {
print $0
if($1 == "@data")
found_data="TRUE"
} else {
for (i = 1; i <= NF; i++) {
matched_attr_index_str = gensub(/([0-9]+)/, "\\1", 1, $i)
matched_attr_index = strtonum(matched_attr_index_str)
matched_attr_index++
new_str = gensub(/([0-9]+)/, matched_attr_index, 1, $i)
printf new_str
if(i == NF) {
print ""
} else {
printf ","
}
}
}
}'
[code segment 2]
Instances newData = null;
try {
SparseToNonSparse stns = new SparseToNonSparse(); // new instance
of filter
stns.setInputFormat(trainingData); // inform
filter about dataset
newData = Filter.useFilter(trainingData, stns); // apply filter
} catch (Exception e) {
logger.info("Error converting from sparse to non-sparse: " +
e.getMessage());
}

Dear Pascal, many thanks for this bug report! At the moment, we're not using any bug tracking system, so clus-devel mailing list is the right address report bugs. Hi, Firstly, my apologies if I'm directing this email to the wrong audience. I've just tried to use Clus with a sparse ARFF file and have seen that it uses a 1-based indexing system for the attributes as opposed to the 0-based system defined here <http://weka.wikispaces.com/ARFF+%28book+version%29>. If there's a issue/bug tracking system used to manage development of this project I'd be happy to log a bug for this. Regards, Pascal |

Beste PVW, Zou het mogelijk zijn om een .tar.gz van /repos/clus op repos.cs.kuleuven.be te krijgen? Het plan is om dat op te kuisen en naar een SVN repository om te zetten. Alvast bedankt, Groeten, Jan -- Phone: +32 476 930048 Contact info: <http://www.struyf-ye.org/janstruyf/research/> |
