I have this same problem trying to clone a drive from an HP laptop. It just starts saying that it can't find /sda1, can't find /sda2, etc. The drive has 4 partitions on it.

Hello,
I ran into the same problem. My backup is form 20140829. I don't remember, which version of Clonezilla I used, but when I try to restore with clonezilla-20150608-vivid-amd64, I get the same error massage "Unable to find partition /dev/sdb1"
It's a Windows 8.1 disk, using and booting with secure boot (UEFI).
I tried to restore with Clonezilla live 20140915. I had to disable secure boot to boot the lice USB, but the restauration of the image (image to disk) went well.
Tom
I wish I could reproduce the issue here. However, somehow I just can not reproduce it here.
So if you save that with version "20150608-vivid-amd64", and use the same version to restore the image, will it fail or not?
Steven.

The key is the sgdisk version in the environment where you saved your image.
Could you please try to save the image again with clonezilla-live-20150608-vivid-amd64.iso (where sgfdisk 1.0 is included) then restore the image?
Thanks.
Steven.

I am using the clonezilla-live-20150608-vivid-amd64.iso and am unable to perform a disk-to-local-disk clone. This is the command being run by clonezilla:
As far as I can tell, the CHS options are not valid options for the build of sfdisk included with the 20150608 version.
Edit:
I was able to get it to work, but without the CHS options. Right after the command failed, I switched to a second terminal screen, executed the command without the CHS options there (I had to "sudo su" first), and then switched back to the first terminal screen. I was then able to successfully continue on with the cloning process.

I'm trying to clone an image from a server through the network, previously it worked very well for me but a week ago it throws me an error which does not allow me to save images on the server, much less restore images to the laptop.
try updating the S.O. and the DRBL but in the same way it throws me the same error and I have no idea what it could be, I would like you to help me since I am in an emergency.
Please give Clonezilla live a try. If stable one does not work, give testing one a try, i.e., >= 2.5.5-23 or 20180118-* http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php

Somehow after sfdisk, the partitions did not show in /proc/partitions.
Could you please give testing Clonezilla live 2.5.5-38 a try?
It comes with newer Linux kernel so if it's kernel/hardware support issue, the results might be different: http://clonezilla.org/

Hi Steven,
I am sorry, I currently I don't have much spare to do the testing. Maybe I'll try when I'll be upgrading to Windows 10.
Hi!
I can confirm, this issue still exist's. I created a backup from a windows 8.1 installation with UEFI boot.
The backup created by clonezilla-3.13.29-drbl1.
I try to restore the backup, but i recieve the "can't find /sda1" error message mentioned above, and restoration process aborted.
I download the latest ubuntu based version clonezilla-live-20150608-vivid-amd64.iso, and try to restore, but i gave same error.
After all, i download clonezilla-live-20140915-trusty-amd64.iso
I seen the "/dev/sda" is unrecognised disk label error message, but the script ignored it, and the image restoration started...
I attached some of files (describe computer, partitions, etc.) of my backup.

It appears I have a similar issue. I've tried:
alternative stable - 20170905-zesty
stable - 2.5.2-31
20180329-artful
So far, I'm still having issues.
The original disk is 60GB, the new one is 240GB. I tried changing the partition table from GPT to msdos. That didn't work either.

Please describe your steps in detail. It would be easier for us to know where went wrong there.
Thanks.

I created a backup of my SSD and wanted to restore it to another SSD. Backup is made from a SATA SSD, I want to restore it to my new NVME M.2 SSD.
Somehow after sfdisk, the partitions did not show in /proc/partitions.
Could you please give testing Clonezilla live 2.5.5-38 a try?

The new testing works perfectly! Thank you!
Great! Thanks for your feedback.
