Cheers You probably want the string "(a b c)" not the symbol '|(a b c)| as beginners are often confused about symbols. (READ-FROM-STRING "(a b c)") will parse your string into a list, then you might use FUNCALL or APPLY but after you learn the basic concepts you will likely revise your overall design.
