Hi, Thomas, Thank you for checking out CK-Ledger. Chinese is not a required setting for CK-Ledger. In fact, the setting is controlled by the underlying phpgw and by default it is switched off. The error that you encountered is caused by phpgw changing the name of the language table when it evolves from 0.9.14 to 0.9.16. Because of this and some other even more substantial changes to phpgw, ck-ledger-0.7.3 is not compatible to phpgw 0.9.14. My best advice is to run, phpgw.0.9.16RC1 + ck-ledger-0.7.3 (the latest fully tested combination) [If you can't get hold of RC1, go for RC2] or, phpgw0.9.14.007 + ck-ledger-0.7.1 CK-Ledger-0.7.3 is the latest tested beta version of CK-Ledger. Hi
I installed phpgroupware-0.9.14.007 on a Fedora system.
I am using ck-ledger-0.7.3 and Installed it fine, when I create the database
it gives me a problem it can
not find the 'Simplified Chinese languages' zh. Is this going to be vital to
a system that is going to be only
in English. Is there a way that I can switch of the Chinese language
settings.
Please assist.

CK-Ledger is still in beta, so bugs are inevitable. Using CK-Ledger in a production environment does carry substantial risk, so regular backup is very much mandatory. I would suggest the next step is to test out CK-Ledger fully to see if it meets your processing requirement. If the answer is confirmative, then plan your data conversion/master data creation carefully. You may have to re-do the data conversion again in the future since it is likely the vendor/customer record layout will be changed once phpgw 0.9.16 stabilises, and I would not promise auto-conversion of legacy CK-Ledger data to accord with future record layout. If you are looking for documentation to guide you thru' the process, I am afraid no such documentation is available. My best advice is for you to sit down with your accountant to plan out the process and yes, the accountant needs to be a very experienced one too. Cheers, CK >regards >Metta > >ps. You are right, The site did not have anything useful I think the files are laying some other place and we have no access to them. Anyway I made the install and the test with out much of problems. Just a few bad settings in some of my mysql setup which caused me having a few problems with phpgroupware. I have now installed all and looked at your test file in the setup. You have a nice installation with step by step to follow. After Installation is there any way I can import my data into mysql tables. We sell books. We have round 4000 items of Books. We seem to have more information in the inventory than you have on the form. how about expanding the table with more data. I have a list of vendors I have a list of customers What is the next step I should try at. regards Metta ps. Hi, Bhikkhu, Thank you for your interest in CK-Ledger. Since the ck-ledger-users mailing list is run under a mailman environment, you would probably have a better feature clarification if you send your query to mailman's user list at, mai...@py... . It may also help if you indicate whether you wish to download recent emails for offline reading or whether you like to have a command for continue retrieval of emails so you could rebuilt the mailing list at metta.lk for mirroring. Cheers, CK PS - I am sending a copy of this reply to php...@gn... since you seems to have sent the same query to phpgw's user list. Hi all, I am just new to this list, and would like to get a copy of the last 100 messages in this list On other lists there is a command to send to the server which will send me the last messages, but in help there does not seem to be any facility to retrieve old list-mails. Hello anupam, I read your post with interest. As CK pointed out, I am offering CK-Ledger running on top of the Xaraya applications framework. If you are familiar with Envolution you may know that Xaraya, like Envo, is a PostNuke fork. Let me also state that I'm involved in the Xaraya project, so please take that into consideration as I state my views :) First of all, you're not shy about that feature request :), it's pretty massive. I think CK is spot on with his observation that integration should be handled by the middle layer, i.e. phpgw, egroupware, Xaraya, Envo, what have you. So the first task is to settle on a framework. CK has already stated the position with respect to the first 2, my commitment is to the third. As to Envolution, I'll make the following comments, which will probably raise some hackles, but which I think prospective porters need to understand. Of all the *Nuke forks Envolution is probably the most risky gamble at this time. About half a year ago another fork led to a majority of the Envolution developers moving to MaxDev. Since then Envolution has shut down all non-US support sites, and this has led to a further reduction of its user base. Finally, the project is working on a total rewrite of its CMS, which introduces another uncertainty into the equation. For all I know in a year Envolution will be top dog, but for now it's in weeak position IMHO. At Xaraya we are exploring ways in which the Ledger module might be linked up to a port of the PostNuke pncommerce module and to John Cox's Paypal module being developed on Xaraya. So we are moving in a slightly different direction (e-commerce) than what your feature request proposes. If you have your heart set on a *Nuke middleware layer, I know for a fact that the pncommerce team would be interested in porting CK-Ledger to PostNuke, but there may be a resource problem. So if you think you could lend a hand in that effort, I'm sure they would be interested to hear from you (www.pncommerce.com). Alternatively you might raise your feature request with the people at MaxDev (www.maxdev.com). Their site states a commitment to business applications iirc, so you might find interest there. They also probably have the developer base that could take on a project like this. Only downside (if you can call it that) is that they are heavily Italian based IMHO. On the other hand PHP is PHP, whether in English or Italian :) As to DCL there is a lot going on in that niche. DCL has been the best trouble ticket system in PHP for a while IMHO, but I personally was never too satisfied with its email gateway solution. I understand there is now a PHP version of bugzilla out (haven't looked closely), so maybe there will be another option there. Hello List, A Ledger module based on CK-Ledger has been released for the Xaraya applications framework. The Xaraya Ledger module is based on the following CK-Ledger components: AR, AP, GL, Sales Orders and Service, as well as administrative functions for setup and configuration. Users familiar with CK-Ledger should feel right at home in this version. The ledger module implements a subset of CK-Ledger functions, but takes advantage of native Xaraya functionality, such as the permissions and templating systems. Further enhancements to the module are planned, and feedback and feature requests are welcome. The Xaraya Ledger module is not completely compatible with CK-Ledger; that's the price you pay for running on a different platform and wanting to take advantage of it. Nonetheless efforts are made to keep it aligned where ever possible in order to increase possibilities for cross-fertilization and code sharing. You can find more information on the module here: http://www.xaraya.com/index.php/articles/634 Downloads are available on this site or at http://www.xaraya.com/~marcinmilan/ledger.zip I am happy to answer questions or bug reports about the module either on this mailing list or at http://lists.xaraya.com/mailman/listinfo/xaraya_public-dev or http://lists.xaraya.com/mailman/listinfo/xaraya_public-dev. Enjoy, Marc |

Hello, Jason, If you look thru' the development history of phpgw/egw, you'll notice that egw is a fork of phpgw while phpgw was evolving from 0.9.14 to 0.9.16 . The main difference of the two projects software-wise is the expected adoption of standard XSLT by phpgw and the use of custom designed etemplate by egw. While no firm decision had been made, it is likely that CK-Ledger will remain with phpgw given the more standardised approach to screen rendering. Hello, Jason, Thank you for your interest in CK-Ledger. Hello all. I'm wondering if there are plans for integrating CK-Ledger into the groupware app that it sits on. It seems rather a waste of time to go through the process of setting up the groupware if CK-Ledger doesn't even use it. I've noticed other people asking about this in the past, but I have failed to find an answer. -- Jason Flatt (jason @ flattfamily . com) Father of five (http://www.flattfamily.com/) Linux user (http://www.sourcemage.org/) IRC Nick: Oadae Channels: #sourcemage, #lvlug Server: irc.freenode.net PGP Key: E992213F - 0254 9DB7 BE0E 312D 8352 6E39 0700 FB95 E992 213F |

Hi, Dick, Thank you for your interest in CK-Ledger. CK-Ledger 0.7.3 had been tested against against phpgroupware 0.9.16RC1 within a Fedora Core I environment, ie, apache-2.0.47-10, mysql-3.23.58-4 / postgresql-7.3.4-2, php-4.3.3-6. With your install of mysql4 and apache1.3 and the fact that phpgw0.9.16 is a release candidate, bugs are somewhat expected. Unfortunately, because of change to phpgw0.9.16's api, CK-Ledger 0.7.3 is not backward compatible to previous release of phpgw. My suggestion is that you could setup a Fedora Core I environment to test out the combination of CK-Ledger 0.7.3 + phpgroupware 0.9.16RC1. If that fails, you could try CK-Ledger 0.7.1 + phpgroupware 0.9.14.007. The main thing that you will miss is the foreign currency feature of CK-Ledger 0.7.3 . Hi, Joseph, Well. This really involves decisions in terms of CK-Ledger's operating environment and horizontal linkage to other open source software. I'll certainly give it some thought when planning the future direction of CK-Ledger. Hi, Joseph, I think the gest of the matter is while the ledger reports have to be in CAD, you need to retain the original USD amount for your other operational processing, say bank reconciliation, reference to past billed amount, etc, etc... Referring to your example, Example: we have USD [Bank] Account, we purchased inventory in the amount of 100USD and paid for this inventory in USD from USD [Bank] Account. Assumption: 100USD = 130CAD Existingly, CK-Ledger will generate the following journals, For the vendor invoice, Dr Inventory 130(CAD) Cr A/P 130(CAD) For the payment, Dr A/P 130(CAD) Cr Bank 130(CAD) Ideally, to retain the original foreign currency (FC) amount, there would be a separate set of journals being fired off in parallel, For the vendor invoice, Dr Inventory, USD 100(USD) Cr A/P, USD 100(USD) For the payment, Dr A/P, USD 100(USD) Cr Bank, USD 100(USD) Thus, the original set of account will be used for ledger reporting, while the [xxx, USD] accounts will provide info for your other processing that requires the original FC amount. This is the way some traditional accounting packages handle FC. If this solves your problem, it could be scheduled as enhancement for a future release. But, I don't know when it will be ready, given the long list of future enhancements already on hand. It seemd like a version mismatch to me. You could be using phpgw 14 with CKL073 Versions are not backward compatible. phpgw 14 works with CKL071 for CKL073 u need to install phpgw 16 RC1 this is the problem IMHO ----- Original Message ----- From: "C K Wu" <ck...@ho...> To: "Manuel Montoya" <wi...@bi...> Cc: <ck-...@li...> Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 5:50 AM Subject: Re: [CK-Ledger-users] Error on Ledger Module > Hi, Manuel, > > Thank you for checking out CK-Ledger. > > It is likely that you have not yet built up your db tables as part of > the setup process. > The various steps of the setup process is available from Ledger Admin -> > Admin/setup. > For more detail, please refer to the User/Administrator column of any > module's index page > [specially, please refer to the box on the best way to study the module] . > > Cheers, > CK > > > Manuel Montoya ??: > > > Hi, Im trying to instal CK-Ledger on a Debian/Woody/Mysql/PHP4 > > machine. Hi, Manuel, Thank you for checking out CK-Ledger. It is likely that you have not yet built up your db tables as part of the setup process. The various steps of the setup process is available from Ledger Admin -> Admin/setup. For more detail, please refer to the User/Administrator column of any module's index page [specially, please refer to the box on the best way to study the module] . Cheers, CK Manuel Montoya ??: > Hi, Im trying to instal CK-Ledger on a Debian/Woody/Mysql/PHP4 > machine.
