    Dear Professor Chen,

    Unfortunately I am unable to install citespace. I am using win10, I would install the software with the .exe file but I cannot even run the installer. When I click on the .exe, command prompt pops up for a moment, but it closes immediately, and nothing happens. I have already shut down Windefender real time protection, in order to avoid virus blocking, still no result.
    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance

      Download the 7z file and unpack it. You can launch it with the batch file.

      Try 5.7.R2. If you still have problems, let me know.

  • Miquel Angel Plaza

    Dear Prof. Chen,
    I downloaded 7z package version 5.7.R2, I unpackaged it and go to StartCiteSpace_Windows file to start to install it.
    There is a window asking for number of my locale...
    1-USA
    2-Chinese
    3-Any other locale, i.e., country/langauge
    4-Exit

    I have tried option 1 first (I have later tried also with option 3 but with same results)

    Message "Starting Citespace...."
    Installing files... 65 files downloaded to directory .citespace\resources

    Then
    Downloading WOS demo files
    Installing files... 465 files downloaded to directory .citespace\examples\WoS...

    Then, another window telling that "A new version 5.7.R2 is now available. Do you want to go to the download webpage?" I say "No, use the version I have" because I am trying to install version 5.7.R2

    And system stops here.... no more message, no more installation follows...

    Could you help me?

    I have windows 10, 64 bits, java 8/271

      It sounds fine until the last question. You can ignore it and it should run anyway. I have corrected the date. Try it now.

        Dear Prof. Chen,
        I have tried several times to instal CiteSpace after your mail but it has been impossible.
        Every time a try CiteSpace.5.7.R2.exe or CiteSpaceV.jar i obtain the following windows:

        Timeout. Keep trying?
        YES/NO

        And, then,
        Version Check
        5.7.R2 (64-bits) is invalid or expired

        I have tried to download again and re-install 5.7.R2.7z and CiteSpace.5.7.R2 several times but with no success.

        I have deleted also folder ./citespace?
        And deleted also file citespace. projects that is created out of this folder.

        Could you be so kind to help me?

        Thanks
        Miquel Angel

    Dear Professor Chen,

    Background Description:
    1. The lastest version of Java has been installed;
    2. The file "jdk8u282-b08-jre" has been copied to the C:\ disk, and the "bin" file inside is set as one of the Paths in the environmental variable setting;
    3. Downloaded the version "5.7.R4" from podia.com, both ".7z" and ".exe" file types;
    4. Cleared .citespace file in the User each time I tried to initialize the running file of both Windows batch and .exe file;

    Problem:
    I was informed of the error notice of "Version Check" and telling me that "The version 5.7.R4 (64-bit) you are trying to use is invalid. Download the latest null.null.Rnull and try again" after it failed to configure the app.

    What should I do to properly install the app? Thank you very much.

      I am aware of this issue, but it seems rare. Out of thousands of users, I only heard from less than 5 people encountered this problem. Some had told me it was resolved, but they didn't give more details on how they resolved it. It may be due to an unstable internet. Perhaps you can try it at a different time.

    Hello Professor Chen,

    I am trying to use CiteSpace for my thesis and face the following issue.

    System:

    MacBook Pro:
    2,3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
    32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
    macOS Big Sur

    Citespace: 5.7.R4

    java version "11.0.9" 2020-10-20 LTS
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.9 (build 11.0.9+7-LTS)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.9 (build 11.0.9+7-LTS, mixed mode)

    Running Citespace using:

    !/bin/bash

    echo Launching CiteSpace …
    java -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Duser.country=DE -Duser.language=de -Xms8g -Xmx16g -Xss5m -jar CiteSpaceV.jar

    Yesterday I installed Citespace and it worked without any error. Today, when I started CiteSpace (. ./StartCiteSpace_Mac.sh), I did get the popup "Timeout keep trying" others talking about in this thread. I attached a screenshot. After clicking 3 times on "Ok" using "Yes" for the input filed, Citespace did open normally. I then checed the logs and saw the following output "Community(280): timeout. Try again later." Now, I am wondering what this error/timeout is about and if Citespace will work correctly. Seems like some connection did time out.

    Thanks for your help,
    Lars

      Use the msi file.

      • Stephan De Spiegeleire

        When trying to install CiteSpace-6.1.3.msi (Aug 25 build), Kaspersky Internet Security automatically deletes citespace.exe. The way I deal with that is by pausing Kaspersky for a few minutes; installing CiteSpace; and then adding an exclusion for citespace.exe.
