It would be a relatively easy fix in any case - just add some code to cgiwrap before the exec to automatically exec a script using a particular command. Although, I would suggest something like: if ( regular-exec-fails with a file-not-found error or similar ) { check filename if ( filename ends with .php ) { exec same command using php as interpreter } elsif ( filename ends with .pl ) { exec with perl... } else { generate error message } } Unfortunately, that probably would not take into account that scripts without a #! are automatically fed to /bin/sh. You could just do that check+exec before the regular exec, but then there would be no way for a user to run a script using #! that ran with a different perl or different php unless they did some sort of exec in the script itself. I suppose if you had to, you could have cgiwrap open and read the first couple of bytes of the script and only apply the extension/exec check if the script didn't have a #!. -- Nathan ------------------------------------------------------------ Nathan Neulinger EMail: nn...@um... That sure looks to me like the server is not running as nobody. You need to check and make sure that is who it's running as. Look for the 'User' line in the config. If that it truly correct, send me: the output of configure, config.h, your httpd.conf file, and a 'ps -ef' output when the web server is running (an output that includes the userid). Also, you may want to check to make sure that the uid of nobody in the password file is not duplicated. i.e. something like: nofiles::32767::::: nobody::32767::::: That would cause the above problem, since when it goes to look up by uid, it would return nofiles instead. > 2. The invocation of suexec by apache (or mod_fastcgi) includes an argument which is the CGI application's pathname. This is the URI "resolve" to the filesystem. The file technically doesn't have to exist as long as the handler knows what to do (currently mod_cgi and mod_fastcgi will complain/abort if doesn't exist). I will change that in mod_fastcgi (when suexec is enabled). The CGI application's pathname will be ignored by cgiwrap (I assume - user and group are also passed as args and will have to be ignored too), the environment will look the same as if invoked as a CGI. --robs |

It would not, in my opinion, make alot of sense to put FastCGI support into cgiwrap. The applications that it invokes would still have to support FastCGI, unless you grew cgiwrap into a persistent application server. The language independence that cgiwrap and FastCGI support would be difficult to address (without having to exec the application on each call which is a significant advantage provided by FastCGI). Doing this for one or more languages would be feasible, but you'd have to build that support into cgiwrap. Bottom line is it would be doing far more than its stated purpose today. Making the changes to mod_fastcgi I will proceed with. A wrapper is a wrapper from my view. > As long as it is passed a reasonable set of environment > variables, it should > work ok. With cgiwrap, the basic usage is the determine the script and user from the URI. i.e. /cgi-bin/cgiwrap/~nneul/info.pl would run /users/nneul/public_html/cgi-bin/info.pl as nneul. There are other approaches using ScriptAliases and rewriting, but they all boil down to the same thing. > I've made some suggests about how to use mod_fastcgi with the existing > cgiwrap, but its unclear to me their status. One of the benefits of cgiwrap is that it is server independent. (Not that anyone would ever want to use anything other than apache of course....) I was wondering if it would be reasonable to put fcgi support into cgiwrap, not add cgiwrap support to mod_fcgi. > 2. The problem is that people do not access cgiwrap scripts through the document root. They access them via PATH_INFO added to cgiwrap call. It's a real low priority for me, as I figure if you need the extra performance that a fastcgi/mod_perl script gets you, you should just have a dedicated server process running the scripts directly. -- Nathan |

ok, I can run scripts fine on my RaQ3, but here is where I run into a problem. I wan't to make a universal cgi-bin, so I added a ScriptAlias in the srm.conf. Lets say I have it looking like this- ScriptAlias /sys-cgi/ /home/sites/home/web/sys/ the address for /home/sites/home/web/ is www.domain.com. www.domain.com/sys/formmail.pl run fine, but www.other domain/sys/formmail.pl returns an error. Even www.domain.com/sys/formmail.pl returns the error. The error's header looks like this- CGIWrap Error: Script File Not Found! Script File Not Found! what does this mean? Any suggestion? Thanks, Chris |

I just committed changes to add that patch for the path_translated fix. I've also added support for a shared/common cgi directory. By it's very nature, this shared cgi directory is dangerous and really should not be used unless you're very sure about it, but alot of people have asked for it. The option is: --with-multiuser-cgi-dir=PATH When processing the scriptname that is passed to cgiwrap, it will use the script that is more precisely defined. I.e. if the call specifies a/b/c, and the user has a script "a/b", and the common dir has "a", it will use "a/b" and set path_info to "c". If the user has "a/b" and the common dir has "a/b/c" it will use "a/b/c" and set a blank path_info. This is confusing, but it was the best I could come up with for dealing with the inexact representation of scripts in the URI. Try it out, let me know if it does what y'all needed it to do. For reference, the common function I imagine this being used for is the "create/edit your home page" type of app or a standardized form handler app, where you don't want to install it for all users, but you want things like mail to come from the right account, and you don't want to have excess/extra setuid apps. -- Nathan ------------------------------------------------------------ Nathan Neulinger EMail: nn...@um... Premature end of script header usually means it didn't send the "Content-type: text/html" (plus two new lines) correctly. If you are using server side includes, make sure each of these includes also generate the header with any html content they might be producing. I would also check on this path information... /home/sites/home/web/counter/Count.cgi Is that correct? Try this... 1) Create a directory called /home/euser/lcgi-bin 2) Create a VH configured something like : <VirtualHost www.example.com> ServerAdmin web...@tt... DocumentRoot /home/euser ServerName www.example.com UserDir disabled ErrorLog "|/usr/local/bin/cronolog /usr/local/logs/%Y%m%d/example-error_log" TransferLog "|/usr/local/bin/cronolog /usr/local/logs/%Y%m%d/example-access_log" HostnameLookups off IdentityCheck off <Location /lcgi-bin> Action cgi-wrapper /cgi-bin/cgiwrap/euser SetHandler cgi-wrapper </Location> ScriptAlias /dlcgi-bin/ /disk/lemail/lcgi-bin/ <Location /dlcgi-bin> Action cgi-wrapper /cgi-bin/cgiwrapd/euser SetHandler cgi-wrapper </VirtualHost> If I do http://www.example.com/dlcgi-bin/monitor.pl (Small program to echo DOCUMENT ROOT) I get : 404 Not Found Not Found The requested URL /cgi-bin/cgiwrapd/euser/dlcgi-bin/monitor.pl was not found on this server. It appears that the server abided by the /dlcgi-bin/, granted, but when cgiwrap got a hold of it, it didn't do the ScriptAlias. If I create a dlcgi-bin directory, and put it in there, THEN it works, but then the ScriptAlias is unnecessary.
