On a linux server with the required support modules, etc. with CGIIRC 0.5.4. Not running any pop-up blockers or ad filters. have looked at the list archives and haven't seen any msg that applies to my problem. We haven't changed the socket_prefix and our problem is two-fold: 1) When you join the room the list of names in the room does not show but instead they are all interposed on top of each other and unreadable. 2) You can enter the room and watch the traffic but cannot see the nicknames or send messages to the channel. If you want to see the problem in action: http://marriagehealing.org/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi Any ideas? |

It tries to make a directory under /tmp, check the permissions on /tmp (or change socket_prefix and the prefix in client-perl.cgi). I'd be interested to know how well it works under OS X if that fixes it :) |

when I try to compile the C client on my university's server I get the following errors: Undefined first referenced symbol in file connect /var/tmp/ccdUq0Ib.o SUN_LEN /var/tmp/ccdUq0Ib.o socket /var/tmp/ccdUq0Ib.o send /var/tmp/ccdUq0Ib.o ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to client.cgi Not sure what other information would help, but I'm curious to know if there's anything I can do to fix this, as I'd like to use the C client instead of the Perl client (as its stated that its faster, and would probably get me in less trouble for overhead than the perl version) Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Or is it a crappy-host-problem? You won't be able to connect to that server, it is used for the CGI:IRC server on cgiirc.blitzed.org only, try putting irc.blitzed.org as the server. If that doesn't work I'd guess your host is firewalling IRC. You could try using a different port (e.g. 7500 for Blitzed).. |

It sounds odd, I don't get the problem on IE6 or Mozilla either.. The new output code (which uses XMLHTTP) should popup a window with the error if there is a problem.. although it is possible the problem could be with the XMLHTTP code.. You could ask the users to try http://buttersquash.net/cgi-bin/irc.cgi?interface=opera7 as this won't use the XMLHTTP code (but other things like scrolling won't work either..). |

I have set up a CGI:IRC interface at http://buttersquash.net/irc for the #altreligionscientology and #scientologylies channels on Undernet. I personally have no trouble using these and most people who use them report the script works flawlessly, but some people, for no obvious reason, are able to connect fine, and watch what is going on on channel, but they can't type anything, and they eventually get disconnected for ping timeout. It works fine for me in Mozilla Firefox, IE 6, and even to some limited extent in lynx. I can't figure out why this is happening, and why it is only happening to some people. (PS we are critics of Scientology, not Scientologists.) rob |
