Selden, Celestia /only/ displays "distance to center" when the observer is INSIDE the galaxy, like in case of our Milky Way as seen from Earth. "Distance to border" would be stupid in this exceptional case. For good reasons I used /throughout/ "distance to border" when the observer is "outside" the DSO (which is the case for most galaxies). This is unsuitable for user configuration, since lots of stuff depends on the respective definitions, including the galaxy brightness profile etc...
