It is very piggy -- and in fact Apache itself is pretty piggy -- the main performance choke points continue to be the template engine, uncached sql queries and not paying attention to if-modified-since -- personally I think these are the main stumbling blocks to a fully scalable ccHost installation. iow, even if you were to write your own native apache mod that redirected urls in a specialized way, you would still have major issues with the things I mentioned above.
