I have now tried bzflag under 2 versions of Windows (98 and 2k) and with 4 different video cards (Voodoo3, G200, G450 and an ATI) and even two differnt motherboards. In many instances, I tried multiple driver versions. bzflag malfunctions identically in every case -- it fails to render the lower section of the display unless the Generic GDI is being used (usually by picking 8 bit color. Picking 24 bit color always results in a sickly green colored display). It's tough to play with no radar. :-) In one case (G450, latest driver rather than unified, win2k), the malfunction was the polar opposite -- during gameplay the ONLY thing it would update is the radar. I know that everyone says it works for them. Nevertheless, it bzflag is incompatable with so many varieties, don't y'all think there may be some issues at work? Does bzflag have a software GPS system that disables operation near 37 N 121 W? :-) The only constant is that in every case it was running on an AMD processor (either a K7-600 or a Duron 900) with 256M of RAM. I find it difficult to believe I'm the only one using one of those either. :-) |
