Category: BZFlag Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Brian Utterback (blu28) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Laser should not ricochet Initial Comment: When ricochet is turned on, the laser can bounce in unpredictable ways. Since there is no range limit on the laser, it can bounce all around the field, with the mostly likely result of killing the firing tank. It is impossible to tell where it will end so firing the laser becomes a crap shoot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: alwaysanegativescore (alwaysanegative) Date: 2007-01-11 17:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1618015 Originator: NO The variable controlling the laser range (I think it's _laserAdRange) on the server in question must be through the roof. Try lowering it, or if you aren't an admin, ask an admin to lower it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: ruskie (ruskie3) Date: 2007-01-08 08:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=932245 Originator: NO Did you ever play on two castles... laser there doesn't crisscross the entire playing field... infact it doesn't even go from one corner to the other without a bit of help from moving forward. So it is limited. and it can ussualy be predicted. I've been saved by being hit by laser simply due to the fact that people expect it to go full range when infact it does not :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Brian Utterback (blu28) Date: 2007-01-08 07:50 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=248179 Originator: YES Maybe I am missing something. Unless the laser is shot perpendicular to the surface, it will ricochet at an angle. While it is reasonable to expect that an experienced player could use this to his advantage, the next surface hit will also likely be at an angle and thus ricochet again, also at an angle, becoming more difficult to predict at each ricochet. Watching the various servers with lasers configured, every time it is used, nearly the entire playing field is blanketed by crisscrossing beams. Perhaps the best thing would be to have a configuration parameter that sets a limit to the number of times the laser will ricochet? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: ruskie (ruskie3) Date: 2007-01-07 07:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=932245 Originator: NO Not really... And it is ussualy limited in duration/range. And nothing is unpredictable... It's all predictable... one just needs to learn how to use it first ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=103248&aid=1624400&group_id=3248 |
