I run a Radio Station where my DJs connect remotely to RADIO DJ via BUTT using Shoutcast. Most of my DJs ( and i mean 99% of them) can connect fine and have no problems. There is that 1% that are just really having difficulties staying connected ( note i said staying connected). They can connect with BUTT no problem but then they are loosing connecting which in turn disconnects them from Radio DJ and then I have to connect them remotely again. I would like to ask if their is something they have to...
IS there a means to set a automation scheduler to turn the BUTT stream on and off at certain times?
Hello Paul, please provide more information. There is no known issue with M* processors. It works fine on my M1 Macbook Air (Sonoma) and M1 Max (Ventura) and no one else has reported issues so far. So it must be individual problems. What does "not broadcasting" mean exactly? Try to explain in more detail what you do and what is happening. It would be best if you could provide a screen recording that demonstates the issue. Best, Daniel

Hello, is it possible for a future version that you put a mono/stereo button?

That's great. No rush at all and thank you!
Oh, I didn't know that. I figured out how to do it and made a quick test. If nothing comes up that would speak against that change it will be included in the next release :)
Hi Daniel, Thanks for replying so quickly. The <bitrate>xxx</bitrate> element in the XML file sets the property on the Icecast mount point. Then it by default gets shown on the public status page.
Hi Dave, I am afraid I don't understand what you mean by "bitrate property for Icecast". Please elaborate more on that and how do you set it via BUTT config file?

Hello Sotmo, I see two possible reasons why it might not work: 1. Please make sure that you downloaded the correct version of libfdk-aac-2.dll. So if you are using BUTT 0.1.41 use this dll: https://danielnoethen.de/butt/release/0.1.41/AAC/libfdk-aac-2.dll If you use on older version, replace the version in the URL above with the version of BUTT you are using. Good Day, I have downloaded the libfdk-aac-2 .dll in order to enable AAC in butt. I have placed the dll in the butt installation directory as per instructions however, when i load butt and try and select AAC+ it say's it could not find the AAC library. Please asisst Thank You Sotmo
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the confirmation. I had tried it on Icecast 2.4.0 KH15 in the past but most recently it's only been on 2.4.4 Xiph. Not a big deal - streaming over HTTP has never been a major issue so long as - if you're using 2.4.4 Xiph - you have a second non-SSL socket configured. Just noting that for anyone else stumbling onto this thread. Best, Dave
Hello Dave, this is a known issue with Icecast 2.4.4. It should work with the newer -kh versions, though. Also Icecast 2.5betaX has a fix for that. Best, Daniel

First I wanted to thank you (what a pain) for something new that I didn't know about, and for which I compiled your Linux version ... you have taken the trouble to create an AppImage version!!!! I always use the AppImage version if available of any application. "Run away from Flatpak, you fools!!!". Since that version exists, I won't need to compile, but I did double-check my initial comment and the package is not correct. Here are my steps: 1. I downloaded source code 2. I extracted all content...

Hello Rafael, thanks for the kind words :) Actually the current instructions include "curl-devel" which worked fine for me. Did you follow some old instructions which didn't include neither curl-devel nor libcurl-devel? I am wondering why they name their packages sometimes libfoo-devel and sometimes only foo-devel. Do you know the difference between them? An AppImage is available on the official home page: https://danielnoethen.de/butt/#_download Best, Daniel
Hello, BUTT works with Windows 11. There is no need to have a special version for Windows 11.
hi i have used the butt broadcaster for years and it is wonderful are they planning to make a version for windows eleven?

My input shows I have signal but it will not "Connect" I'm using 0.1.39 on my P.C. with Big Sur Operating System
I'm using MacOS Big Sur it's the latest version. My Butt Broadcaster has input signal but it will not connect. this issue is across the board on my other Macbook Pro and also on my PC. I can't find anything in the online forum that addresses this issue. Paul

Yes, that could be an option. I will see if icecast and shoutcast would support this.
I wondered if it could pick the album art up from a file in the same way it picks up the now playing text from winamp? Regards Mark
Hello Mark, since BUTT does not read audio files directly, it has no access to any meta data. It receives only the raw audio samples and encodes them. Best, Daniel

Thanks for your speedy reply. Some of the drawbacks with using a separate client, listening via the main server are: It's not possible to rehearse privately with the DSP and encoding losses provided by BUTT, since you have to stream to the entire internet to be able to hear your output as your listeners will . At present, I have to use external units to process the mixed output to be sure that it's acceptable. Monitoring via the main server means the time delay significantly increases, which makes...
Confidence monitoring would be very useful
Hello Martyn, thanks for your feature suggestions. The first is definitely something I will take into consideration. I can understand the idea behind the second suggestion but this would mean I have to integrate an audio streaming player into BUTT which is not the idea behind it. Why not simply use something like VLC to monitor the stream? Best, Daniel

Never mind, my main Windows PC did its dumb automatic restart to install updates again. I'm sorry to disturb y'all. Again, I will update if anything actually goes wrong.
After a few days of streaming, it disconnected again. I am still using the hot fix version you sent earlier in the thread by the way.
New version is out now: https://danielnoethen.de/butt/#_download
It is the source code which can be compiled on Linux. An official release with versions for Windows and Mac will follow this week.
How do you install this files? It gives me a .tar.gz file and the files inside cant be run.
Can you upload an .exe file? :(
Thanks Daniel! I've just arrived home, so I apologize for the delay. I have installed it onto the streaming computer and started streaming to the Icecast server with the same settings as last time. I will post into this thread again when any issue arises.
Hello Micheal (sorry for misspelling your name in my first reply), this was a tough one to find, but I think I fixed the issue. As a side effect few other issues were also fixed. Please let me know if this version solves the issue for you. You can download the fixed version from: http://danielnoethen.de/butt/hotfix/butt-0.1.38_hotfix1.tar.gz Best, Daniel
Thank you! In the meantime, to prevent 0.1.36 from crashing after running for a couple of days it might help to disable "Show listeners" in the GUI tab.
This does not happen on 0.1.36. I have tried it before 0.1.37, but it has a different problem of crashing every few days. I do not have a secondary audio device selected. I do not use the recording feature. I stream to Icecast with the SSL/TLS option deselected. I will attach screenshots below. I appreciate your help and your work on this project.
Hello Michael, I will have a look into this. But first I would like to ask you a few questions: 1. Can you confirm that this does NOT happen with 0.1.36? (https://sourceforge.net/projects/butt/files/butt/butt-0.1.36/butt-0.1.36.tar.gz/download) 2. Do you use the secondary audio device? 3. Do you also use the recording feature? 4. Do you use Icecast (with TLS?) or Shoutcast? 5. Please share screenshots of the settings tabs Thanks Daniel

Here too... It happened randomly 3 days ago and it hasn't stopped happening since
Found out problem it was the date format on in recording tab %d%m%Y from %D%M%Y works fine.
I have set Butt to record with connected to server but I get this error message. Can someone please help me please.
Song name not updating automatically
Hello Cristian, BUTT uses UTF-8 for song encoding. I tried adding charset=UTF-8 to the song update URL but this didn't help. In this case icecast converts it to a HTML encoded string... However, you can workaround it by adding <charset>UTF-8</charset> to your mount specific settings in your icecast config file, or add <mount type="default"> <charset>UTF-8</charset> </mount> just below the <icecast> tag to set it for every mountpoint. Best, Daniel
I have a very important feature request for you to add into your software for the next version I was wondering if you could add an option to add and load our own DSP VST files so we could use the compression that sterotools uses or others like mb recaster dlls so as we can use there limiter /compressor tools alongside your software like radiocaster does screenshot below I think this would be an awesome gamechanger for radio managers like me and would provide that extra full and levelled sound that...

Some more information as to the CPU utilisation issue. I started out with a clean Raspberry Pi OS and installed the pre-compiled version of Butt from the archives it was version 0.1.17. The versions had all codecs compiled into the executable except for AAC+ . The following results were measured : Stream 192K 44100Kbps Stereo mp3 approx 6.6% cpu utilisation flac approx 2% cpu utilisation Opus approx 55% cpu utilisation Ogg Vorbis approx 28% cpu utilisatio Having noted this I downloaded all ofthe...
I ave two version of Butt installed on my Raspberry Pi 400. The first or default version is 0.1.26 and when I run it with an MP3 stream at 192Kbps the CPU utilisation sits around 40 to 45 % . It is a little high but not overly and the stream seems to playback without any issues. I have also downloaded a copy of 0.1.37 and have installed all of the required libraries including the AAC+ libraries. When I run this version of butt with the same settings the CPU utilisation doubles to around 85% CPU !!!...

No audio showing in Butt
here too
I apologize since I realize this is probably more of a Windows question than a Butt question... I'm running Butt on a Windows 10 box. Works great, except..., it will not automatically start on system reboot. I'm not running it as admin. I've checked all the boxes related to the Butt Agent, but to no avail. Finally..., I'm not a Windows person at all..., and am wondering if Butt has to run as admin to autostart at boot time..., or...??? Thx for any insights!
Is there any method that Butt can recognize in the metadata output the correct spelling of my language?. Let me explain better: there are some letters, punctuations and spelling symbols, which I believe to be a problem with the encoder recognition. Example: "José Gonzáles" it reads: "JoaÃÂ GonzÃÂjlez". Would it be possible to fix this?
I found a solution to the problem on the RadioDJ Forum. I just have to add that I am very satisfied with the Butt encoder. I've always heard great things about this software and I really have to agree with that. Around here we have a saying more or less translated like this: "The voice of the people is the voice of God". Thank you all and success to the developers.
At first they will say that RadioDJ version 1.8.2.0 is outdated and why don't I use version 2? As I use Windows 7, due to the audio quality being superior to that of Windows 10, the older version of RDJ suits me perfectly and has never given me any problems, it is very stable. However, I'm having difficulties configuring the metadata in the transmission of Butt, because I can't find, in the root folder of the RDJ, the file or the plugin, which makes this connection with the BUTT. As for the BUTT...
Using Butt while using StreamYard
the only change i had made was to install JAVA , I uninstalled this and everything was fine i also was given this advice :Please check if you have "ID" or "Name" selected in butt->settings->audio->Remember device by.... If it is set to "ID" please change it to "Name". This makes sure that butt will always find your device even if you add/remove other audio devices to/from your Mac.
