Category: Geometry Editing Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: Remind Priority: 4 Private: No Submitted By: Scott Hathcock (scottha) Assigned to: Sean Morrison (brlcad) Summary: Smoth arbitrary surfaces Initial Comment: Is there a way in mged to create a solid or hull that is a smooth surface described by a set of points or equations? Examples that come to mind would be using the offset points for a boat hull, or the table for an airfoil at stations along a wing. The ars looks kind of like this but it does not appear to be smooth. Please follow-up if you need assistance creating a BoT or if you have any developer interest in working on implementing a skin or birail primitive. Cheers! Sean ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Sean Morrison (brlcad) Date: 2007-11-22 21:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=785737 Originator: NO You're quite right -- the ARS is an "arbitrary faceted solid" so it won't appear smooth. You could, however, create a 'bot' (bag of triangles) which can have their normals smoothed or create an experimental NURBS object with those points on the surface. What it sounds like you really want, though, is an object type that we don't yet support. That is, you could create a solid hull surface using a "skin" object or even with a "birail" object. Those two primitive types are on our wish list, but aren't presently being worked on by anyone as far as I know. Until those exist, the bot or ars are probably your best approach. You could use the flexibility of the ars and then convert that ars to a smooth bot relatively easily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=640803&aid=1833702&group_id=105292 |
