To refine my question :

It looks like some of the logic of joints in animedit.c possibly already covers part of what would be needed for constraints/parametric values.
Could animedit.c be the basis for some extension ?
Does a new design of constraint management and parameters computation is needed ?  (I would say yes)
What were the results and experience learned with the 'joint' command ?
