The great prognosis are made. The increase is up to 70% in the last three days. (MXXR) is the gainful deal and those who knows it is making money. The drilling results of this highly capable oil partnership exceeded all its expectations. Once this data hits the outdoors there will be no stopping this one. nowadays it's approximately 0.022 but we are expecting it to triple. Gentlemen: I have been tracking (barely) Blocks development for about a year. I really wish I had more time to get involved with its further development. My biggest wish for Christmas is to have an enhanced version of Blocks rolled underneath OpenOffice to provide part of a next-generation Open Source Workflow Engine. The idea is to enhance OpenOffice's XML-encoded metadata file objects so that Blocks-enabled software 'agents' can handle the routing of XML Schema- based workflow documents between the members of a 'Virtual' OpenOffice-based Workflow Team. OpenOffice already supports forms though I don't believe they are stored as hierarchical XML Schema constructs. Some simple examples of electronic document workflows this would support are puchase requisitions, travel authorizations, business travel expense reports, engineering change notices (ECNs), team-authored training manuals, among many, many more. Can you e-mail me with instructions on how to get in touch with Blocks lead developers by e-mail? I'd like to discuss this use of a future Blocks in greater detail. Thanks. Im still here too :-) Work stuff prevents me from thinking about P2P stuff too much nowadays, and having recently bought a car and a house, got married and changed jobs I dont have too much free time either. But I do still think about these this stuff. Maybe one day I'd like to kick off another project, perhaps something related but smaller and more easily defined. I was thinking that one of the key P2P decentralization problemsis finding other hosts. Perhaps a project to simply provide a server a demon that king of works like DNS and allows others to find members of their P2P group. This could be done in a generic fashion and would not involve any searching, advertising, or file sharing. An analogy woul be posting your IP via NNTP. This would remove the decentralization problem from P2P by building a secure and legitimate network of such servers. P2P developers could then concentrate on searching/publishing/downloading issues. Anyway, just an idea... hope everyone is doing well, ttfn PG :-) >From: Erik Moeller <mo...@sc...> >To: blo...@li... >Subject: Re: [Blocks-development] Penny-arcade; blocks2? >Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2004 06:13:06 +0200 > >Hey Michael- > > Weird idea 3: Armed with this new knowledge from this Programming >Languages... I'm imagining creative filesharing network users building and > implementing completely new things that we never foresaw, using this > environment. I'm still here, waiting to see if there will be a final revival of Blocks, which I still think is one of the most advanced anonymous file sharing architectures (and hey, it clearly has the superior logo ;-). In case you haven't noticed, Mute by Jason Rohrer has also gained some traction: http://mute-net.sourceforge.net/ Unfortunately virtually all P2P applications just focus on a single aspect, namely the searching/sharing/downloading of stuff. There is relatively little real innovation such as: - P2P market places - think decentralized eBay - webs of trust and ratings for content discovery - collaboration networks like the one you describe (this issue is broader than just scripting an encompasses what is currently done in wikis, but also things like CVS and Subversion, and distributed rendering) - timecash and other new currency systems - decentralized forums, chat (IIP is a first working solution here) ... Really, we're doing only a very small subset of what is possible in software. Unfortunately, it's a lot easier to point out what can be done than to actually do it. The challenges of implementation are quite significant, especially when it coems to apps like the one you describe (keeping everything in sync, preventing abuse etc.). The list you probably want to subscribe to in order to discuss these things is p2p-hackers: http://zgp.org/mailman/listinfo/p2p-hackers It has 700+ subscribers, although traffic is low for such a large list. And when it comes to documenting these ideas, I think the infoAnarchy wiki is the place to use: http://www.infoanarchy.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page I also suggest the following channels on irc.freenode.net: #p2p-hackers #esp #freenet as well as #infoanarchy on irc.oftc.net. I posted a message which is "awaiting moderator approval" -- but I also started getting a ton of spam once I turned on my old blocks@ email address again. I want to see if spammers are watching this list for email addresses. (The message is apparently awaiting moderator approval only because of its length, so if it doesn't get released, maybe because the moderator is absent, I'll post it again as three separate messages.) I want to see if I start receiving spam on this newly-created email address I'm posting from now. If I do, I (and everyone else who dislikes spam) will apparently need to start posting emails with spam-protected from and reply-to addresses, with instructions in the message body on how to remove the protection. --Michael Spencer |

Is anyone still alive? The last few messages to this list were all spam, so I wouldn't blame you guys if you have all unsubscribed. We got "wang-dotted" over a year ago, if anyone cares -- apparently Blocks was one of a list of random filesharing clients linked at the end of an article at the web comic Penny Arcade about the RIAA's great customer service. http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php3?date=2003-09-12 I was kinda happy to see some traffic, but near as I can tell nobody actually tried to use the client. I don't know if anyone cares, but way back in 2001 I said I had just gotten a programming job. I ended up losing that job three months later, sadly -- they let several of us go. The company was DPI Merchant Services, that credit card processing company that was in the news for getting hacked a while back. And no, none of my remaining code had anything to do with that. :-) I've been going back to school -- I'm currently on my last semester of a C/S degree, and am terribly terribly busy. No time for Blocks at all. But right now I'm taking a Programming Languages class, and it's really opening my eyes. I think I'm well-trained enough now to be able to handle a complex system a bit better, so I might take another stab at understanding Blocks. How about everyone else? Right now I'm of the opinion that a good next-step filesharing innovation would include giving the user a way to teach their filesharing client to implement their wishes, beyond those anticipated by the developer and written into an options dialog. I'm mentally tossing around weird ideas I want to share with SOMEONE, and I'm curious if anyone is still out there who wants to listen. Weird idea 1: more of a concept, really. Filesharing network users are social creatures. They participate in different groups, and they have different individual standards and values, and different group standards and values. Weird idea 2: Filesharing programs are intelligent agents, and we need a way for users to express their standards and values to these agents so they can respect and implement them. This is vastly more complex than any set of options in an options dialog, and users are probably going to have more complicated needs than we will EVER be able to foresee. None of us is wise enough to create the perfect feature set and the perfect options dialogue. I am embarrassed that in 2001 I seemed to think I could. Weird idea 3: Armed with this new knowledge from this Programming Languages class, that breaks down the very act of executing statements into these fascinating "semantic reasoning" pieces: I think we should build a kind of scripting language and execution environment within a filesharing network. I'm imagining an entire filesharing community of multiple clients (but nowhere near ALL clients on a network) expressed as a shared execution environment, where all the nodes cooperatively execute these scripts, with security and authentication and node-to-node communication as each statement is executed. I'm imagining creative filesharing network users building and implementing completely new things that we never foresaw, using this environment. This stuff starts to get harder to talk about, because as I start getting deeper into this Computer Science program of study my list of conversation partners gets shorter. This stuff is really enlightening. If I see interest expressed on this list, I'll go into more detail. --Michael Spencer |
