Python 2.6 has changed and object.__init__() no longer takes arbitrary arguments. Using 2.6 just leads to constant TypeError messages simply add a blank __init__ function to BaseProtogenClass and all is fixed :) prototypes.py:88 class BaseProtogenClass(object): """All types are derived from this""" def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): "Do Nothing" |

I'm new to bitpim, but would be interested in what I could do to help the program support the enV3. I just activated my enV3 today as well as my mom's Chocolate, which I know is already supported by bitpim. Please e-mail me at Spidergirl2788(at)gmail.com if you think I can help. Lara C. I did the new-every-two thing and now have a phone that is less good than the one I had before, (a VX-8300 that I immediately reactivated as my phone) and one of the reasons I'm not using my new VX-5500 is that BitPim does not support it. Is there a dev I could loan it to, to increase the probability (and decrease the delay) of BitPim support? (Another member of my plan is using the other free 5500 I got, so it would be worth it to me to get it supported even if I continue to not use my own when I get it back) - David |

I'm new to the group and would like to contribute. In trying to understand how the code works, I've been trying to understand the format of the files. Stepping through the code and matching it with the files from the Env Touch are leading me nowhere. BitPIM seems to be decoding the file properly, but I don't understand how the Msg List is decoded. If someone could give me a quick breakdown of how its encoded, because it looks like just the first 20-50 characters of a text message are in there as ascii and the rest are encoded in some fashion. Thanks! Loren |

Virgin mobile has often been found to be uncrackable thanks to its CDMA system, and virgin's relentless efforts to deny access into their phones' file systems. Until recently there has been nearly no purpose for devs to put effort into hacking virgin's phones. However with the release of the X-tc model purpose is found. If at all possible looking into a way to utilize either the wap browser, opera mini browser, or micro usb port (which is currently only able to charge phones as virgin blocked data transfer through either soft or hard means) to gain access into the architecture of the phone, so that users can finally add ringtones, images, etc without being limited to the expensive limited selection that virgin mobile offers. Support for this phone would be greatly appreciated by many many users. Thank you. Phil |

I'm surprised that you are able to read this phone. BitPim is designed to support CDMA phones the SGH-Z240 uses the GSM protocol. I have found call history on Samsung phones in a number of different files previously such as .clog .vcf and .db, etc. Part of the difficulty is that there is not an established standard by Samsung for their various models, which differ across their product line. Hi, I'm new to the list & looking to get my new LG VX7100 (Glance) working with bitpim. After testing some other LG phone profiles, the phone seems to be most like the LG VX8610 (Decoy). Bitpim fetches mostly everything except the phonebook correctly using this profile, but it can't write anything. I read the documents in dev-doc, but I'm still unsure as to where to start development. What is your general procedure in figuring out the packets / reversing the protocol? Any tips much appreciated. Thank you. Adam |

Hello, quite some time ago I started implementing support for the Samsung SGH-D600, unfortunately that phone died and I had to get a new one, that's why I couldn't finish that project. I still got all of my work, but I'm afraid I can't comment too precisely on it, but I figured maybe someone would like to continue my work, that's why I'm sending what I got here. The first thing I had to do was changing return ': '.join(resp[0].split(': ')[1:]) in the __send_at_and_get function in src/phone_detect.py to return resp[0] in order to get my phone recognized at all. I wish I could tell you more about why it's necessary, but it's been too long ago and I'm not able to test it anymore. The second patch adds two parameters to the sendpbcommand in src/phones/com_samsung_packet.py. I think to remember doing this because the phone sends big amounts splitted in multiple packets. If a packet ends in "#OK#\r\n" one would have to send "##>\r\n" to keep to transfer going. Doing that in the subclass was awfully slow, that's why i moved it to the commport class to be able to react faster. Unfortunately I'm missing the changes i did to commport.py :-/ Besides those 2 things it's just the p_samsungsghd600.p, the com_samsungsghd600.py and the entry in src/phones/__init__.py I got some mails from people, who would like to see support for the Samsung SGH-D600 in BitPim an since i can't really do much about it I hope some who has the phone takes it from here. If any information about the phone are needed, I can probably cram out the references/logs/etc. I used, just ask me, i'll do my best to help. Best regards, Marvin Schmidt |

Thanks. I figure I'll have to do that, but I've spent so much time testing and etc that I was trying to take a shortcut. It would be the fastest way to a real answer. I'm using a Verizon v3m (which comes up as a v3c in phone info and a v3m in the status bar in bitpim 1.0.7.20081215 - Test) on wxpp. There are about 350 messages in the inbox and 360 in the outbox. I think I succeded at clearing out all the pix from the phone (there were only a few) and I've gone through all the "i" and "o" folders and their sub folders and cleared the two .txt and three .jpg files I found in there, too. I'm able to look at wallpapers and I can get my address list, but when getting SMS bitpim just goes busy for a few moments and then craps out back to "ready" without any indication of anything at all. Clearly, I'm not happy with those few lines of code in that sms.py file that I've mentioned before. That code should throw an error message when it hits 999 and then exit the routine. There's no comment anywhere about the arbitrary choice of 999, but I can make a few guesses, none of which leave me with a warm fuzzy. take care, Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Sean Patrick Burke To: bit...@li... I am working with a verizon razr v3m with nearly 3,000 sms messages total in the inbox and outbox. I have been trying to use bitpim to archive the text messages. I'm not able to do very much. The best I seem to be able to do is to go to the folders in /brew/mod/syncom2/msging/d,i,o and save the .att and .env files from there to my drive one at a time. At this point, I haven't looked through much code and I haven't looked to see if there is code to interpret these files, but that's something I hope to do soon. For starters, I was trying to figure out why I can't collect messages to the bitpim program or save groups or zip sets to the drive, as the bitpim program interface implies I should be able to do. So, I was looking through code and particularly sms.py. In "class SMSEntry(object):", I found the following of interest: _id_index=0 _max_id_index=999 I immediately wondered if I didn't need something more like 9,999? Or, at least 3,000. A little further down in the code I found this: if SMSEntry._id_index<SMSEntry._max_id_index: SMSEntry._id_index+=1 else: SMSEntry._id_index=0 Am I way off base here, or... shouldn't this "else:" throw an error or warning and handle this overflow in another way? As an aside, the phone is about 95% full. Performance of this phone suffers as the messages add up. It doesn't take many messages for this phone to show performance problems, but once it gets to about 80% plus, it becomes extremely tedious to use. Other bugs crop up, but this is for another posting. Thank you for the offer but we already have access to an enV touch. Support for the phone is already in our code base and will appear in the next test release (this includes support for address information and favorites). LG has made significant changes to the layout of the phonebook so DO NOT try to use any other setting to access the phonebook. Doing so will only screw up the phonebook. -Nathan Hjelm On Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at 04:17PM, "Andrew" <no...@fl...> wrote: > >Hello, BitPim developers: > >I was reading this forum thread: > > http://cellphoneforums.net/lg-env/t298673-problem-using-bitpim-env-touch.html > >and someone suggests that 1) BitPim developers might not have an Env touch in their possession, for development and 2) that if they /did/ they might develop its support in BitPim fairly quickly > >Verizon just shipped me my Env Touch, but I don't have to activate it right away > >I would be willing to *LEND* you my Env touch if ... > >1) you think you might make use of it toward reasonably successful BitPim support. Hello, BitPim developers: I was reading this forum thread: http://cellphoneforums.net/lg-env/t298673-problem-using-bitpim-env-touch.html and someone suggests that 1) BitPim developers might not have an Env touch in their possession, for development and 2) that if they /did/ they might develop its support in BitPim fairly quickly Verizon just shipped me my Env Touch, but I don't have to activate it right away I would be willing to *LEND* you my Env touch if ... 1) you think you might make use of it toward reasonably successful BitPim support. As they report in the above forum, settings for the Voyager and the Versa seem to be very close to working with the Touch, and the biggest problem is the potential data loss (contacts) and other functionality loss, due to incorrect requests. 2) if you think that the likelihood of my phone's TOTAL destruction is reasonably low. I understand you might, in the development process, temporarily wipe out this or that, but there should a way to restore/reset the phone, as the people on that forum report. I'd be, of couse, more reluctant to lend you the phone if you thought the risk of total destruction is high. I also understand that there's probably SOME risk of that, even if it's low. and, again, just to be sure, my offer is different from what the forum poster suggests -- someone *donating* their Touch to you guys. I'm not donating; i'm lending one. Please let me know thanks andrew |

enV touch support is in SVN. All features of the upgraded phonebook are supported (favorites, and physical address data). At this time the updated phonebook code is in com_lgvx11000.py but I want to keep all of the lg phonebook v1.0 (vx-8550) code in one file. Would anyone be opposed to merging the updated phonebook code into com_lgvx8550.py and using hasattr () to limit favorites and address data to the phones that support those features (I have tested this with a Voyager)? Another option would be to move the lg phonebook code into com_lg.py. -Nathan |

I need to know the exact version that Windows 9x was "officially" dropped from BitPim development. I need to use Windows 98 Second Edition and am not sure which version to use. Also, how do I find out what the earliest version a certain phone (LG VX6100) was supported? Thanks! |

I am unable to read the filesystem on my phone using the USB cable. I've uploaded the protocol log to http://pastebin.com/f46f51153 and it looks as though the phone does reply with a directory listing but for some reason this is considered failure. All I really want is to read the MSL code supposedly stored in /nvm/nvm/nvm_0002. However I am willing to experiment with it to get as much working as possible. I don't know much Python but I reverse-engineer Nintendo games for fun and code in C, so I might be able to help with something. I have tried to just copy this file via the CLI, but the 'cp' command fails: File "/usr/lib/python2.5/posixpath.py", line 195, in isdir st = os.stat(path) TypeError: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, list found I'm using Xubuntu. This phone annoys the crap out of me so any help hacking it to be less stupid would be great. Apparently there are some Samsung programs that can read the contact list and other things so they might give some insight into the protocol. I haven't used them at all though. I wouldn't be a bit surprised either if there are a few exploits in the firmware. |

wbPython only posts the 2.8.10.1 version of the binary or the source. Where can I get a Mac compatible binary or the source for 2.8.8.1 (not in RPM form, RPM source is not valid from posted links on BitPim developer page. |
