As I was going through the code for the brew protocol I noticed there was a command for getting a list of sub-directories directly under a given directory, but didn't see a command for getting a list of files in a given directory. On a hunch I tried command code 3, since it wasn't being used for anything and that was it. Here are the details: [Get File List Request] 59 brew header 03 "GET FILE LIST" command code 0d lenth of parent directory path 6d 6f 74 6f 72 6f 6c 61 2f 65 6d 73 00 parent dir = "motorola/ems\0" [Get File List Response] 59 brew header 03 "GET FILE LIST" command code 00 error code 23 00 number of file entries that follow = 0x0023 fe 00 size of data block that follows = 0x00fe {Each file name is seperated by a null. I gave up on PythonWin and tried Komodo IDE 4. I was able to set breakpoints and step throught the code, see stack and values in the background thread no problem. Jim Miller From: jam...@ho...To: bit...@li...Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 17:07:40 -0700Subject: [BitPim-devel] hitting breakpoints in PythonWin Hello, I'm new to Python, new to PythonWin, and new to BitPim. I have installed all the tools and source and have BitPim running in PythonWin and talking with my phone (Moto K1m). My task is to understand the brew protocol and to do that I want to step through the brew code using PythonWin. My problem is that I can't get PythonWin to break at the breakpoints I've set in com_brew.py. I've searched the archive and didn't find anything about this issue. Thanks for any help you can give me, Jim Miller |

Hi everybody. Every six months or so I surface on this list to post some helpful hints for making the OS X build for bitpim. This time I wanted to post to say that it *looks* like we finally have a universal build for bitpim going (v 1.0.7.20080908.ub1). Previously we had trouble because it is incredibly hard to build a universal libusb. (Most posts I have seen require people manually building it on a PPC and i386 and then manually lipoing it together.) If you are like me and still stuck in PPC land, you can punt and download a functional build from that TWAIN SANE page (http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/ ). Joe, it might be helpful to put a note on the developer page linking to this build in the libusb section. Every other package on the developer page works "out of the box." Next up, we are getting isolated reports that the LEOPARD build is crashing hard, but it appears that the TIGER build works on 10.4+. I'll try to look into this this week, but if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Best, Sean |

Thanks for the fix for the exceptions to recurring events. There's still one case that's not being picked up correctly, though. The URL below is a public calendar I've created that shows this. In the example I have a weekly recurring event. On two days (9/19 and 9/26) I changed the day of the event to the next day. This deletes the recurring event for those two weeks only and creates a new individual event for the two next days. What I get in BitPim is the new days AND the days that should have been deleted. http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/isgjqrop09bhcaege7rqqfiquk%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics Thanks! I do not find a 'pim' directory. (using WinXP) I'll paste in the relevant section of the Protocol Log at the end of this email, all six group/category names are clearly being read from the phone. I looked at the bitpim.db and found one table called 'categories' and another table called 'phonebook__categories'. The one called 'categories' contains all six labels that I have defined on my phone, whereas 'phonebook__categories' only lists four of the defined categories. from the Protocol Log: 16:41:27.178 LG PM225: Reading group information 16:41:27.178 LG PM225: Getting file contents 'pim/pbookgroup.dat' 16:41:27.194 LG PM225: sendbrewcommand Data - 23 bytes <#! phones.p_brew.readfilerequest !#> 00000000 59 04 00 13 70 69 6d 2f 70 62 6f 6f 6b 67 72 6f Y...pim/pbookgro 00000010 75 70 2e 64 61 74 00 up.dat. 16:41:27.210 LG PM225: brew response Data - 267 bytes <#! phones.p_brew.readfileresponse !#> 00000000 59 04 00 00 01 1f 01 00 00 00 01 00 30 00 00 00 Y...........0... 00000010 01 00 01 4e 6f 20 47 72 6f 75 70 00 00 00 00 00 ...No Group..... 00000020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000030 00 00 00 00 01 30 00 00 00 01 01 01 46 61 6d 69 .....0......Fami 00000040 6c 79 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ly.............. 00000050 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 30 00 ..............0. 00000060 00 00 01 02 01 46 72 69 65 6e 64 73 00 00 00 00 .....Friends.... 00000070 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000080 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 30 00 00 00 01 03 01 43 6f .......0......Co 00000090 6c 6c 65 61 67 75 65 73 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 lleagues........ 000000a0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 ................ 000000b0 30 00 00 00 01 04 01 42 75 73 69 6e 65 73 73 00 0......Business. 000000c0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 000000d0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 30 00 00 00 01 00 00 .........0...... 000000e0 4f 52 47 54 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ORGT............ 000000f0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000100 00 06 30 00 00 00 01 00 00 46 4d ..0......FM 16:41:27.210 LG PM225: sendbrewcommand Data - 3 bytes <#! phones.p_brew.readfileblockrequest !#> 00000000 59 04 01 Y.. 16:41:27.240 LG PM225: brew response Data - 267 bytes <#! phones.p_brew.readfileblockresponse !#> 00000000 59 04 00 01 00 1f 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Y............... 00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000030 00 00 00 00 01 30 00 00 00 01 01 01 46 61 6d 69 .....0......Fami 00000040 6c 79 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ly.............. 00000050 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 30 00 ..............0. 00000060 00 00 01 02 01 46 72 69 65 6e 64 73 00 00 00 00 .....Friends.... 00000070 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000080 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 30 00 00 00 01 03 01 43 6f .......0......Co 00000090 6c 6c 65 61 67 75 65 73 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 lleagues........ 000000a0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 ................ 000000b0 30 00 00 00 01 04 01 42 75 73 69 6e 65 73 73 00 0......Business. 000000c0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 000000d0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 30 00 00 00 01 00 00 .........0...... 000000e0 4f 52 47 54 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ORGT............ 000000f0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000100 00 06 30 00 00 00 01 00 00 46 4d ..0......FM 16:41:27.240 LG PM225: Groups read Data - 287 bytes <#! phones.p_lgpm225.pbgroups !#> 00000000 00 30 00 00 00 01 00 01 4e 6f 20 47 72 6f 75 70 .0......No Group 00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 30 00 00 00 01 01 ..........0..... 00000030 01 46 61 6d 69 6c 79 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .Family......... 00000040 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000050 00 00 02 30 00 00 00 01 02 01 46 72 69 65 6e 64 ...0......Friend 00000060 73 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 s............... 00000070 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 30 00 00 00 ............0... 00000080 01 03 01 43 6f 6c 6c 65 61 67 75 65 73 00 00 00 ...Colleagues... 00000090 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 000000a0 00 00 00 00 04 30 00 00 00 01 04 01 42 75 73 69 .....0......Busi 000000b0 6e 65 73 73 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ness............ 000000c0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 30 00 ..............0. 000000d0 00 00 01 00 00 4f 52 47 54 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .....ORGT....... 000000e0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 000000f0 00 00 00 00 00 00 06 30 00 00 00 01 00 00 46 4d .......0......FM 00000100 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00000110 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ............... -Phillip |

First off, I love this program. I've been looking for a way to sync my Google calendars to my phone (an LG VX-8800 Venus) for a while now, and this program makes that very simple. As far as I'm concerned, the other features are just icing on the cake, so to speak. That being said, I've noticed a couple things where I think the calendar functionality could be improved quite a bit. 1. There needs to be a way to delete old events in bulk from the calendar stored in the database. I can cheat by deleting the old events on my phone (which does provide such a feature), syncing that to my computer, importing my calendars (using the proper filter, of course), and then re-syncing to my phone, but that seems like a lot of hassle when I could just hit a button or run a command in BitPim to clear out all the old events before syncing them to the phone in the first place. (If there is such a feature and I just missed it, please point out the error of my ways.) 2. This one is a little more esoteric. I'd like a way to go through all recurring events on the calendar and then update them to the most recent future recurrence before syncing them to my phone. This might make more sense with an example--I've got this calendar of birthdays, and naturally, I made them start on the people's actual birthdays when I knew it, some of which were quite a few years ago (for example, 1982, 1983, etc.) so I could figure out the person's actual age. However, when I sync those with my phone, all the ones starting ages ago are missing (out of range for the phone's calendar, I guess) while the ones entered more recently show up. Updating those missing ones to start in the current year allows them to come through. This also supports the whole concept of deleting old events mentioned above. I don't see anything like these requests on the Todo list (except maybe the "Database data item deletion" point), and I'd be willing to volunteer some testing and development time (Python's not my best language, but I wouldn't mind getting better at it). I started getting a development instance set up last night, but I figured I should check in with the list to see if anyone had any pointers on where to start, if someone had already started something not on the todo list, or even if these are good ideas. (I certainly think so, but I'm kinda biased.) Again, thanks for making this program--it's really quite wonderful. Chad Burrus |

Phone model: LG VX8300 SW Version: T83VZV03 Connection type: Bluetooth using the Microsoft Windows XP native Bluetooth driver. Calendar sync used to work fine on 1.0.5; on 1.0.6, it repeatedly sends a string of digits to the phone which shows up on the phone display as a typed number, then a popup appears on the PC: “Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider”. I reverted back to 1.0.5 and it works fine again. |

BitPim 1.0.6 - official (same bug noted in 1.0.5) LG-PM225 Only the first 4 Groups/Categories are correctly associated with contacts after retrieving information from the phone. A contact that is associated with the 5th group (or higher) in the phone is displayed without any Group/Category in BitPim. (First 4 refers to the order in which groups are listed in the phone, BitPim later arranges the group names in alphabetical order) All of the group/category names are correctly downloaded from the phone. If I edit a contact using BitPim, all of the groups that are defined in the phone appear in the list of categories in BitPim. I haven't worked with python before, but I poked around the code a bit to see if I could find something. In "phonebook.py" there's a section dealing with categories: 'Category', ("categories", 0, None, "category", False), 'Category2', ("categories", 1, None, "category", False), 'Category3', ("categories", 2, None, "category", False), 'Category4', ("categories", 3, None, "category", False), 'Category5', ("categories", 4, None, "category", False), 'Categories', ("categories", None, None, formatcategories, True), As a naive quick attempt, I tried modifying this code to the following: 'Category', ("categories", 0, None, "category", False), 'Category2', ("categories", 1, None, "category", False), 'Category3', ("categories", 2, None, "category", False), 'Category4', ("categories", 3, None, "category", False), 'Category5', ("categories", 4, None, "category", False), 'Category6', ("categories", 5, None, "category", False), 'Category7', ("categories", 6, None, "category", False), 'Categories', ("categories", None, None, formatcategories, True), since I have 6 categories defined on my phone. Alas, my lofty dreams of submitting a bug-fix at the same time were dashed :-( Any ideas? or pointers where else to poke around in the code? -Phillip |

Hi, I have an LG VX-8560 - I installed bitpim 1.0.6 and tried to upload my MP3 ringtone - I was able to copy it to the /ringers folder, but after rebooting the phone it doesn't find the new ringtone. Did I put it in the right folder? In a video for the vx8500 it referenced the /brew/[number] folder, which seems not to exist on the 8560. Any tips appreciated, thanks. I tested BitPim 1.0.6 on both Linux and Windows (XP) with the Katana (6600). On both systems BitPim was able to detect the phone at the correct port and download the phonebook. On Windows I installed the Sprint Connection manager to get the phone drivers. I am pretty sure that I have tried DataPilot drivers with this phone before.
