PET smooth

The PET smooth dialog (similar to the Lung MIP dialog) is;

In most studies either a bi or tri cubic display is used to improve the quality of the displayed image.

For low count studies it can be more advantegous to use a PET smooth. The sigma (mm) lets you control the area over which the smooth is performed. By changing display you may see the effect of smooth vs. no smooth.

Be aware of a possible "problem" of apparent image shift when going back and forth. The "problem" only appears in certain studies where there is a difference in the reconstructed area of PET vs. CT. The bi and tri cubic displays have a higher resolution and thus there can be a 1 pixel shift when shifting back and forth between the smooth vs. bi or tri cubic display.
