Nightly builds (and releases AFAIK) are compiled with Xcode 3.2.6.  I saved my old Xcode 3 folder to use on Lion for this, and it mostly works fine.

That would be kind of lame, though, since 10.5 is the last OS that runs on PPC systems.  I think it would be far better to drop it entirely when the time comes, instead of halfway.

In theory, Xcode 4.2 can coexist with 3.x just fine on Snow Leopard, and I think 2.5 could as well.  In practice, I ran into some problems with 3.2.6 and 4.2 on Snow Leopard, as the updated frameworks that Xcode 4 installs are not compatible with other parts of the OS!
