Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Sebastian (sesced) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Include the editor in .bdskcache Initial Comment: Bibdesk creates automatically *.bdskcache-files for Spotlight but it includes only the "Author" but not the "Editor" field. Now, entries of type "proceedings" typically only have "Editor" information. Hence it would be nice to save the "Editor" string in the Spotlight's "kMDItemAuthors" if an entry has an empty "Author" string. This would allow a Spotlight search to find this entry when searching for the corresponding editor. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Month input Initial Comment: Hi, In my opinion, the way Bibdesk handles the "Month" field could be improved. Currently, anything I type there is added (which is ok), but bibtex supports an abbreviated type which is automatically converted to the month according to the bib style in use. For example, currently, if I type "dec" in the month field, bibdesk will produce: Month = {dec} However, this should be the case of using the abbreviation, and then it would be: Month = dec Without the brackets, bibtex does the conversion according to the style in use, which is great. So, my suggestion is that bibdesk should provide a way for us to use this abbreviation, maybe via a shortcurt, dropdown input or a special symbol in the beginning of the word. Thanks for the great job guys. It might have been rejected a long time ago for good reasons, but this feature is available in most reference software, nowadays, and is really practical in case you want to manage the entire library for all the manuscripts written and worked on. I would appreciate if you consider this feature again. Best tmsf1244 PS: It might also be conceivable to drop the separation between smart and static groups on the left side and just call them groups and sort all smart and static groups alphabetically. At the end they are all just groups. And also nice to have more options of presented subdivisions through the preferences window. E.g. It would be nice to set up if static and smart groups shown together or separately and if keywords should have be shown at all. More options like instead of keywords, authors and/ or type of literature and/ or year and/or journal and/ or publisher etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=497426&aid=3605323&group_id=61487 |

Category: Output Formats Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: John King (jonfish) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Add file paths to RIS export Initial Comment: The current RIS export feature specifically excludes file paths (L1, L2 etc). This occurs in line 86 of BDSKRISParser.m: NSSet *tagsNotToConvert = [NSSet setWithObjects:@"UR", @"L1", @"L2", @"L3", @"L4", nil]; According to Adam Maxwell, "As a guess, it's because BibDesk's export predates the addition of L1 to the RIS standard. As an alternate guess, it's because the specification is inadequate; the current standard says that L1 is "File Attachments," which is hopelessly vague." Some applications require the file path. For example, Nvivo, a popular QDA tool which is increasingly use for literature reviews, does not import BibTeX and is not compatible with Bibdesk Endnote export. It will import RIS, however, and if L1 is included it will automatically import attached PDFs. Either: 1. The offending line should be removed from BDSKRISParser.m 2. An option should be added to the RIS export so that file paths can be included 3. The RIS export filter should be duplicated, renamed as 'RIS export including file path' and the offending line removed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=497426&aid=3599788&group_id=61487 |

Currently the only work halfway in BibDesk. For example these two entries from biblate'x biblatex-examples.bib. @article{doody, title = {Hemingway's Style and Jake's Narration}, author = {Doody, Terrence}, related = {matuz:doody}, relatedstring = {\autocap{e}xcerpt in}, journal = {The Journal of Narrative Technique}, volume = {4}, number = {3}, pages = {212--225}, year = {1974}} @collection{matuz:doody, title = {Contemporary Literary Criticism}, editor = {Matuz, Roger}, volume = {61}, location = {Detroit}, publisher = {Gale}, pages = {204--208}, year = {1990}} In LaTeX you would simply \cite{doody} and run biber only once since it knows that it has to look for matuz:doody. BibDesk OTOH doesn't know about this. The effect is that there is no proper preview if I only select matuz:doody since the data of the related entry is not available. Getting URLs with reserved TeX characters like underscore or tilde to work in BibDesk is basically impossible unless \usepackage{url} is in previewtemplate.tex. I spent several hours this afternoon thrashing about trying to figure out how to get such URLs to work with BibDesk. This is not at all obvious to those of us who haven't worked extensively with BibDesk and are just trying to get it to work as a productivity tool. It really is a great product, but I don't understand why its initial configuration is set the way it is. If you don't think it's a good idea to have \usepackage{url} in the default previewtemplate.tex file then please add some text to the documentation, maybe under Preferences Guide -> TeX Preview, with links from Quick Start and Managing References so people can find an explanation of what's going on without spending hours experimenting and scouring the Bug Tracker like I did. As it is BibDesk's behavior appears to be a real mystery when one first experiences bad URL behavior. Thanks for making this nice product available to TeX users! I tried to do it with available criterions but did not succeed. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=497426&aid=3577207&group_id=61487 |

Category: Import Formats Group: BibDesk 2.0 - CoreData Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: https://www.google.com/accounts () Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Biber problem Initial Comment: Hello, I know that this ticket was already closed, but I would like to report again the problem with the function with the biber package reagrding biblatex. The backend=bibtex setting works, but the backen=biber doesn’t. The problem is that since MacTeX 2012 upgrade the biber does not work (it worked before), but since this upgrade of the MacTeX 2012 many other biblatex packages will be biber-only, not supporting the bibtex backend anymore. This needs fix as soon as possible, IMO. Attached screenshots, and the log error. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=497426&aid=3552874&group_id=61487 |

Category: Interface Improvements Group: BibDesk 2.0 - CoreData Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: https://www.google.com/accounts () Assigned to: Michael McCracken (mmcc) Summary: Author and Keyowrds Separator - Bubble Initial Comment: I was thinking of an improvement in separating the authors (mostly with many names) and multiple keywords as well. In few softwares (for example Evernote - esp. TAG fields) you see after entering the separator character (in the case of Evernote it is a comma "," in the TAG field), the expression becomes a so-called bubble (see attachment). I think it could be of a big help and user will have a better overview of both: the authors and the multiple keywords as well. I personally would prefer only these two fields (the aforementioned Authors and Keywords), of course, it will not be useful at all in fields like title, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=497426&aid=3552610&group_id=61487 |

Category: Interface Improvements Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Michael McCracken (mmcc) Summary: Author auto-complete Initial Comment: Hi, I really enjoy using Bibdesk. One thing that would it considerably better (from my standpoint) is some additional intelligence on the autocomplete feature on the Author field. I constantly encounter an author name (for example, "G. Hirzinger") of a paper where I can't recall the first name. However, I like to store the first name ("Gerd Hirzinger") in my bibliography file. Bibdesk won't autocomplete in this case, but it would be nice if I either put in the last name ("Hirzinger") or if I typed "G. Hirzinger" it would automatically insert the first name. Thanks!
