Hi Gwenole, I know get the error "Invalid thread_state flavor = 0. Not forwarding" on launch, after which SS just dies with a Bus error. The crashreporter log doesn't seem useful, either: Thread 0 Crashed: 0 <<00000000>> 0x165b7797 0 + 375093143 1 <<00000000>> 0x00000000 0 + 0 This is on Tiger / Intel btw. Also, I haven't had problems running (a previous built I made) under Leopard. -Alexei |

Hi, I just wanted to tell that SheepShaver from CVS now builds again on =20 MacOS X, sorry for the many weeks of breakage. And I also have two to =20= three months of mails to answer, sorry! BTW, I will probably buy Leopard this afternoon even though I don't =20 see the usefulness of that system but to check B2 and SS =20 compatibility there on users requests... Apple used to build really =20 innovative systems some years ago. I am afraid but it seems Apple is =20 more a marketing company nowadays than a technology-based one. Well, =20 I find 120 EUR for a new OS with only new effects over-priced. I have =20= yet to see core improvements, in particular in the Mach code for =20 faster exceptions delivery... And I hope they correctly fixed poll() =20 in Leopard, at last. Sorry, bad mood today! :) Bye, Gwenol=E9.= |

It has been a long time since I read =20 him working on a PPC backend for the JIT and he designed the code =20 with that target in mind. This is mostly useful nowadays now that we =20 have a testsuite, though not for FPU instructions yet. This would be =20 a good start though, to check the individual translated instructions =20 semantics. I plan to change a few things in the JIT code and it would be nice =20 indeed to have a look at his PPC backend. Bye, Gwenol=E9.= |

This is probably interesting for Gwenole or maybe other experienced coder... Bernd Meyer (Umisef), author of UAE-JIT and Amithlon has told in public forums that he has almost finished a 68k->PPC JIT for UAE that he would like to release if someone would like to fix a pair of FPU bugs that are still there. He doesn't have time or the will to finish it and he wouldn't like to release it but that no one updates or maintains it. Is there someone qualified and with the will for the job? This is interesting for all PPC owners... If someone is interested in the "job" and can't contact Bernd Meyer drop me an email and I'll put you in touch with him. -- Saludos/Best Regards Jaime Cagigal |

Hi all, Sorry if this is the wrong list to be posting to. I read somewhere that this list was for sheepshaver too. I was just curious if there's still any development of sheepshaver going on. it runs a bit slowly on my macpro and doesnt seem to be synced to the video right. i can see it refreshing the window (800x600) and menubar for example. Is there work being done to emulate later versions of OS9 than 9.0.4 ? Im running 2ghz mac pro with 256MB of ram assigned to the sheepshaver. Im running it with the JIT enabled at 800x600 windows at 30hz and quickdraw acceleration enabled. is there anything i can do to tweak the speed? the sound skips for example. any help is appreciated. - Todd Wallace |

Hi, I put up a Solaris 10/x86_64 package for BasiliskII You can get it at http://www.thoughtwave.net/downloads.html I had to disable PTMX, enable typedefs in slirp and change the map in ether_unix.cpp (I don't know cpp, so I'm proud of this working) I can't tell if networking works or not because it core dumps when I run Netscape 1.12 :-) Does anyone want me to set up a forum to revive the UNIX (Solaris) development & testing? jonathan -- -- Jonathan Kalbfeld +1 323 620 6682 |

Hey Gwenole, I'd recommend also fixing the following at least for Solaris: Disable the PTMX define Fix the std::map directive in ether*.cpp to make it compile (I can send you a diff if you want it) Enable typedefs in slirp_config.h Other than that, I have networking enabled on Solaris and it works great. However, Netscape makes the emulator crash. Will Apple allow distribution of the ROM images? I bet they would but probably don't because they'll get sued by all the clonemakers they charged money to in the 1980s and 1990s. Also, I noticed that my palm treo 650 has an abstraction layer that runs 68000 code natively. Has anyone tried porting BasiliskII to the palm treo for palmos? System 7.5.5 would be the ultimate mobile computing platform. jonathan On 6/17/07, Gwenole Beauchesne <gb....@fr...> wrote: > > Hi, > > Here are some items I would like to achieve prior to releasing a new > Basilisk II snapshot. > * Add minimal QuickDraw acceleration (BitBlt for srcCopy alike to > SheepShaver) [Christian already posted the ShapeShifter guesswork here] > * Fix 68k emulation bugs. Hi, Here are some items I would like to achieve prior to releasing a new Basilisk II snapshot. * Add minimal QuickDraw acceleration (BitBlt for srcCopy alike to SheepShaver) [Christian already posted the ShapeShifter guesswork here] * Fix 68k emulation bugs. The Lisa emulator author will provide me with his tester results files from a real 68040 [500 MB of compressed data!] * Fix slirp network emulation code for Windows. Some reports indicate I may have broken it in CVS, somehow (?) At this point, I believe B2 is stable enough to be 1.0-final. A full featured MacOS X build (JIT, FAT binaries, no SDL) is already a great improvement. Thanks Nigel for the MacOS X port! I won't claim to fix all 68k emulation bugs in due time but this would be a great achievement too. I would have liked to have Classic emulation working, but I don't know yet how to fix it. Probably m68k emulation bug fixes would get it right? I don't know... Oh, before I get questions: I am sorry but I don't have Windows Vista and I don't want/need it either. A SheepShaver update will come next, probably in July or August. No clear features set defined yet, this will depend on motivation and inspiration to do some things. I believe some crashes on MacOS X >= 10.3.7 on ppc are already resolved in CVS (more correct exception handler). |

Hi, The necessary changes are now available in CVS. Some docs have yet to be updated though. Here are the new build instructions. $ cd src/MacOSX Everything is built under the MacOS X tree (though building from Unix still works with SDL support) $ NO_CONFIGURE=1 ../Unix/autogen.sh This regenerates the configure script with the in-source m4 macros (yes, 1_prepare_files.sh is dead) $ ./configure --enable-jit-compiler This configures Basilisk II with JIT compiler enabled, provided your are using an x86 platform (single binary build) $ ./configure --enable-jit-compiler --enable-universal This configures B2 to build Universal Binaries on supported platforms (x86, ppc). You can select other arches, e.g. --enable- universal="ppc i386 x86_64" though I don't have Leopard to test Note that you need to build B2 from an x86 platform though it could work the other way around. This automatically selects the oldest cross-compiler to ppc, preferably the 10.2.8 SDK. You can choose another SDK version through the --with-ppc-sdk=VERSION option where VERSION is 10.2.8, 10.3.9 or 10.4. Comments welcome. BTW, REAL_ADDRESSING mode also works with a full MacOS X build. I have verified so with a FAT binary on both x86 and ppc. Some *_macosx files are not 64-bit clean yet though I have added support for x86_64 to the SIGSEGV library. Someone with Leopard may want to submit patches within the next two weeks. Thanks. ;-) |

Yes, it's a Classic ROM. Weird. Does the ROM code have an exception handler for illegal =20 instructions which does something useful, or is it wrongly executing =20 MOVEC in the first place? I'm going to guess the latter, and =20 speculate that a branch is misfiring. Is it possible that the =20 emulation incorrectly sets CCR bits, sending us down a 68020 path? If you can get to the blinking '?', you can hold down Command-Option-=20 X-O at boot to startup from the ROM system disk. :-) Josh |

You need the system software to recognize that it's running on a Mac Classic and limit itself to supported instructions. Are you using a Mac Classic ROM? Josh |

There was some talk about networking not functional on Basilisk II for Solaris but I definitely was able to use it. However, when I tried to install Netscape 3x or 4x my entire emulator crashed. I did get BetterTelnet working... Sound works fantastic. I can make my sparc in the next room go "Eeep!" which makes the dog bark. jonathan -- -- Jonathan Kalbfeld +1 323 620 6682 |

Hi, Did anyone ever get Mac Classic emulation working with BasiliskII? I =20 tried a B2 build as old as 0.7-2 but B2 fails with an illegal =20 instruction (0x4e7b -- movec d0,cacr). I patched 3 instances of that =20 to a no-op but I only get a blank screen and sometimes a crash. Thanks, Gwenol=E9.= |

Dear Gwenol=E9, It has been a long time that I mailed you concerning SS. Anytime you hear anything from me, it pratically is always some kind of begging to improve something for SS in windows environment. You see we've been using Basilisk II for almost 6 years with the = basilisk II networking protocol, to load fonts with HP utility into an AMOS (alpha-micro)-system. There has never been anykind of networking problem = in Bas., but SS nor with the TAP/TUN, Slirp or NAT router, we can't get a = go with networking. So I was wondering if you would be possible to make a windows binary that uses the Ethernet driver the same way as Basilisk II does, when ever that will come true, SS will be THE preferred = environment here at work. Thx and hopefully I am not disturbing you with this JM. -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: bas...@li... Hi all, Now I've got SheepShaver 2.3 up and running. Excellent!! However, I seem unable to access data / programmes on floppies. I've looked at FAQ's like at http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/en/projects/sheepshaver/help/using_sheepshaver but using Ctrl-F1 doesn't make it fully accessible. ie. No floppy icon appears on the desk. Furthermore, within SheepShaver, if I open my Unix box, then the 'mount' folder, then the 'floppy' folder, this causes the floppy drive to be accessed (the floppy drive can be audibly heard to be accessed, and its drive light flickers), however no files can be viewed within in the 'floppy' folder. The same occurs if I do the following within a shell on my Linux box . . . [andrew@internode ~]$ cd /mnt/floppy [andrew@internode floppy]$ hmount /dev/fd0 Volume name is "Untitled" Volume was created on Tue Nov 2 22:43:39 1993 Volume was last modified on Fri Apr 7 22:27:30 1995 Volume has 638464 bytes free [andrew@internode floppy]$ Then, again in SheepShaver, I open my Unix box and open the 'mount' folder then open the 'floppy' folder. Again, the floppy folder appears to contain no files. This is despite the fact that the floppy drive can be heard to be accessed, and the floppy drive light flickers. At no time does a floppy disk icon appear on the SheepShaver / MacOS 8.5 desktop. Should I be expecting to see a floppy disk icon on the desktop ? Is there something else I should be doing to make the files from my floppy disks, visible within SheepShaver ? Cheers, Andrew |
