Audacity can't use FFmpeg beyond end of 2009: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=176 Since 1.3.12 packaged with Ubuntu 10.10 recognises such a recent FFmpeg, Ubuntu must have modified it do so.
