[Audacity-devel] Lame for Audacity 1.2.6

Hoping someone can give some clarification on this:

There have been a number of reports on the Audacity help forum that the
"official" Lame dll (from the .exe file
http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/Lame_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe ) 
does notwork with Audacity 1.2.6 ("Lame not found"), but other builds of
Lame work OK.

I decided to try it myself - not having a Windows box handy I installed
Audacity 1.2.6 in WINE.

Sure enough Lame was not found (even when navigating directly to it,
placing it in the Audacity folder and other such tricks).

I also tried the direct link to http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/lame_enc.dll
given on this page
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Lame_Installation#Windows_Instructions and it was exactly the same - "not found".

I then tried with Lame from:
http://www.rarewares.org/files/mp3/lamedll_MOD3.98.2.zip
This version works fine.

So the question is, is Lame from the buanzo link supposed to work with
Audacity 1.2.6, or is it only for Audacity 1.3.x? What we should be
recommending on the forum?
