Thanks, I'll try this..
Also, do you know of any macro-like plug-ins for Audacity,
like recording a sample for a set start and stop time, followed
by automatic export to mp3 format?  I would love to get involved
in development "VCR Timer" functionality like this.

Ideally, I record radio programs then listen to them later on an mp3 
player..
I would like to set a start - stop recording time, then divide the (e.g. 1 
hour)
recording into six 10-minute mp3 files after recording has stopped, all 
unattended.

Not sure where to start.  Could something like this be done in Nyquist
or is Nyquist more specific to audio effects?
