My patch caused one or two effects UI bugs (the one I noticed was the new
FFT EQ plugin, which wasn't there before I upgraded ;-), and I've
further charachterized 'the spectrum view just doesn't work' bug.  As
it turns out, there are very specific circumstances... and depending,
the spectrum always works or always does not work.  Summary is 'in a
big project, zoomed in, at a few minutes out, spectrum suddenly stops
working at a very specific point in time'.
