I've been testing the playback meter as it's easier to test, but I suspect that the same applies to the recording meter: Negative peaks are now detected equally with positive peaks, but I the level in the meter does not appear to be correct. Generate a sine wave with amplitude 0.5 and the peak level shown is about -5 dB when it should be around -6 dB. Switching to the linear view and the inaccuracy is more obvious. Rather than showing a peak level of 0.5 the meters indicate around 0.7. Similarly the RMS level of a sine wave with peak amplitude of 0 dB is well over -3 dB. I take the point, but couldn't find any real world tracks where this seemed to be a practical problem (but did find such with 258). If it had proved very difficult to fix, would we have wanted to hold 2.0 for it? Now, if this had been 1.2.6 where there is no metering at all for a negative waveform, I might even have thought it a P1. Gale |
