I updated to the newest version of Audacity, but in doing so I have found that there is a new version of Clip Fix. I run a Dungeons and Dragons podcast and previously I could set the threshold to 100% and it would get rid of the very loud dice rolls throughout the recording. However, with the new version I am having trouble doing this as there is a new option that states “Reduce amplitude to allow…” It seems with this change, now when I go to do clip fix with even the default settings, it drastically lowers the volume of my recordings. Previously, the clip fix would simply lower the dice rolls without affecting the rest of the audio. Any ideas on how to help with this or if I could install an older version of clip fix and use that instead in Audacity? Thank you for your time. -- Eric Bell |

I think Nyquist could be good for prototyping, but a convenient app that's easy to use will probably require something independent. Carnegie Speech has some interesting products for language learning. -Roger On 1/26/15 3:45 AM, Helena Wästlund wrote: > We are developing a speech training tool : > > EX: Say this Word with gentle onsets: "orange" > > Feedback: Voice-curves, where you get visual feedback of your speech, > level of fading in and out. > > The solution needs in signal processing is detecting the right > algorithm for fading in - fading out of the input voice. We are developing a speech training tool : EX: Say this Word with gentle onsets: "orange" Feedback: Voice-curves, where you get visual feedback of your speech, level of fading in and out. The solution needs in signal processing is detecting the right algorithm for fading in - fading out of the input voice. (Gentle onsets) Could this be done in audacity-nyquist programming? In that case, which option should we use? Regards Helena Forne-Wastlund, doctorate, developer |

Hello, I m trying to add an option of determining the tempo i.e. Beats Per Minute for a music clip. For that i am using Nyquist coding. I need guidance with the Nyquist coding. Can you please provide me with a proper manual which explains the Nyquist syntax in detail. Please tell me how to proceed with programming. Hoping for a support as soon as possible. Thanks in advance. |

Hi Scott, I *did* read the post but was traveling at the time and wasn't even sure how to answer. You should be clear what your problem is, e.g. is this a DSP question, a user interface question, a Nyquist question, or an Audacity question. In the context of "Audacity-nyquist" I would expect a nyquist question, but you haven't said what you are trying to get Nyquist to do. (If the answer is "remove instruments", this is a signal processing question, not a Nyquist question.) -Roger |

Yes this is 32-bit Debian Squeeze. Profiling to see where the time is going sounds like a good approach but sadly I'm not a programmer and I've no idea how to do that. So now we have 2 disparities to resolve. I think the next step is profiling under Debian to see where the time is going. I assume everything here is compiled for 32 bit architectures. There might be a big difference between running 64-bit vs 32-bit code (not to mention that Nyquist doesn't support 32 bit code -- but actually the latest version in SVN is running under 64-bit OS X and I'm in the process of testing others.) -Roger |

What happens here is: memory allocation and garbage collection (all but small integers go on the heap) occasional calls to oscheck() to check for interrupts It's possible, depending on compilers and alignment, that XLISP cells are bigger on Debian. It would be really helpful to profile the code. Also, it would be interesting to run the same in nyquist on both systems (not within audacity). -Roger |

I thought so too, but here we are. The speed of Nyquist should be very similar on both. One big performance issue I've run into is that any signal that decays (exponential envelopes, feedback delay, reverb) eventually becomes denormalized, and depending on how things were compiled, the cpu, etc., this can invoke a software handler at which point floating point becomes VERY slow. I should probably make a simple test to see if this is happening. It would also make sense to make some simple tests to see if the speed difference is related to allocation, floating point, the XLISP interpreter, etc. -Roger > > Is it possible to compare the Nyquist IDE (rather than Audacity-Nyquist) > on the two platforms?
