To ensure that I was working with the most recent version of Audacity, immediately before running these tests I grabbed the "nightly build" on 2 October 2009. Gale said: >1. (1) In order to "initialize .cfg" I renamed it as audacity.cfg.OLD (deleting this file works just as well). (2) I note that when I do this I get the splash screen (welcome) but no offer to choose language. This led me to examine my Windows Registry. (a) I note that Audacity opens a project window at the location and size which was prevalent before I renamed the configuration file. I'm guessing that on Windows this is a registry setting. In my registry, even though I had uninstalled Audacity 1.2.6, I find settings from Audacity 1.2.6; I removed those settings. Removing those entries eliminated 2 problems. Audacity 1.3.10 Beta seems to be picking up those registry entry values one of which was Language the other one had to do with starting window location and size. The latter may very well be critical to the "hidden 2nd project window" bug! (3 & 4) Following your instructions explicitly, I do not get the same results. For me I get the expected results -- the 1st project window opens in the default location and size, the 2nd project window opens slightly offset from the 1st project window with the same size. Knowing that you preferred to work with your project window maximized by modified your 2nd step: (2)Launch Audacity, choose language, OK welcome, [maximized project window] exit Then I followed your steps 3; after I OK' d the splash screen Audacity's project window opened maximized. As the folder in which the Audacity executable is located was open, its icon was available on the taskbar -- I selected it to bring the folder into view on top of the maximized Audacity project window. I double clicked the Audacity executable icon to launch a new project window. Again, the the results were as expected -- a new project opened and it's window was maximized. Obviously, I could not determine visually the state of the original project window so I iconized the 2nd project -- the 1st project remain visible and maximized. Just to be sure, I re-created the test, deleting the configuration file and following your steps explicitly again maximizing the project window in step 2. This time, after opening the 2nd project window (which again opened maximized) I chose to restored down the 2nd project window. In this case, the 2nd project window became no longer minimize but occupied exactly the same amount of screen real estate -- the only way I could distinguish it from a maximized window was by noting the change in the little "rectangle" icon at the top right-hand corner of the window and by noting the little tiny triangle of dots (resizing gadget) in the lower right-hand corner. Is there any chance that this is what you observed? If not, this must be a Vista vs. XP issue and we will need to have others chime in (especially those on Mac and UNIX)! -Ed Musgrove |

I will install 1.2.6 early next week and see... 2.x should completely ignore Windows Registry (as far as I understand). XP/Vista SP2/SP3--you say potato (long A) I say potato (short A) :> ! -Ed Musgrove ________________________________ From: John Colket jc...@gm... Ed: > Windows this is a registry setting.
