I would suggest, actually, moving the "silence/erase/delete/whatever" action
to the cut/copy/paste edit menu, and that would probably clarify any existing
ambiguity. Last time I fired up Audacity, it was in a different menu, and
that was 1.2.something, so maybe this has already been done?
If there's a spot on the toolbar (none, last time I checked) for these
operations, then a tooltip should clear it up.
I figure there's two cases, and it would work like this:
1. Single-track (or stereo track or whatever) users would predominantly use
"cut" from the menu, because it's what they intend to do.
2. Multi-track users would predominantly use
"delete/silence/erase/whateveritscalled" because they don't want to screw up
the timeline (they probably drive deloreans, too).
Both users would know to use the "Edit" menu for the operation they seek.
Just my worthless penny. ;)
