Hi.. I am new to open source, project builder, and audacity so hopefully these are dumb easy questions: I'm trying to build the audacity app on a mac osX.3 . All I can find is wxwindows 2.4.2 and I've read a doc that I should use an older one. Still true? If so where do I get a copy? Since the codewarrior project is corrupt I'm working on the project builder file. Right now my system doesn't have these files on it that the project wants: audacity-carbon.rsrc commandkeys.h commands.h configunix.h Diskfunctions.cpp DiskFunctions.h WaveletDenoise.cpp WaveletDenoise.h and .cpp libw.h Other than that I notice I don't know how to set the access paths in project builder. When I run it says that files from wx/everything.h can't be found but they're right there. ? um I haven't managed to use CVS correctly yet either if that's a solution...I'm using the code from the audacity sight. I must say I'm very impressed with this app and looking forward to building it. (even on windows some day...) |

I'm a new user my names Bill Meikle. I joined the list yesterday. I have a plan where I learn audacity and write a good auto-harmonizer filter. (I have a background in music and programming) but to be honest I do have an alterior motive. I'm doing some open source work up front so I can learn wxwindows to port my commercial qtvr app to windows... Is that fair? I'll have to ask some questions just to get audacity to compile. It's such a good app I can see being ripped off by commercial interests being more and more of a problem. I mean my copy of cubase sx is basically just as buggy as audacity, and I can't fix it! I don't deal with music software as a commercial thing and have no plans in that area. As to my autoharmonizer, I have a friend that writes kareoke devices that do pitch correction and diatonic harmonies in realtime. I was going to use them but they're hardware and I can't get in there and change things... still they prove to me that (at least as a post-filter) I can probably do some pretty cool stuff and I want to try! I've always thought that my knowledge of music theory was much better than my programming, so it's a place to apply what I know... |

As soon as possible, I would like to declare a string freeze for the Audacity 1.2.0 final release. After the string freeze takes effect, no translatable strings should be added or changed on the 1.2 branch until after the final release. This will give the translators a chance to get their localizations 100% accurate for Audacity 1.2.0. Please let me know if there are any fixes planned before the final release that require string changes. As soon as the developers are ready, I will send all the translators up-to-date POT files and inform them of the freeze. Also, I added a "translator_credits" string. If translated, this string appears in the list of credits in the About dialog. This allows the translators to add their own names to the credits when their language is in use. Somewhere in configure.in there's a huge case statement that sets certain variables depending on what the host type is. There's a variable for portaudio make targets, I forget what it's called. You *should* only need to add another case to this part where you check for *irix and then set whatever variables you need to set, using the Cygwin and OSX conditions as a model. I'm trying to record audio to a network mapped drive, and get occasional errors that stop a recording. Anyone else had this trouble? What I want to do is record several days of a radio station, copy it to a DVD disc in OGG format, then listen to it at work where I can't get radio reception. So, I need a lot of disc space. It seems Audacity should have no problem with this, but Windows network drives seem unreliable. However, the error is fairly rare, so maybe including some re-try attempts instead of failure would fix it. Another issue: I have some records I wanted to burn to CD, but was never happy with the existing tools I had access to. A general noise filter is OK, but applying them to the whole file instead of a single site reduces the overall quality. Ideally, one should clip out the bad sample segment, then estimate missing points by interpolation in Fourier space, instead of just dampening the bad signal. For a vinyl record, it's pretty easy to spot a noise tick. To be REALLY fancy, one could process two or more recordings of the same record. A lot of work though... Joe Krahn |

ModifyState() still doesn't cause UnsavedChanges() to return true, because I didn't want typical ModifyState operations (like using the selection tool) to be considered "unsaved" changes. I did change PushState() to reset the saved-changes state when operations are consolidated into ModifyState() calls. I also changed the gain/pan slider to call PushState() with consolidate = true. This change is checked into the AUDACITY_1_2 branch. Oh yeah, and CVS/gcc are both much faster on my new computer. :) |

Then I do an action which causes PushState and ModifyState to be called. After that, I undo the changes, so I have the original state after loading the file. Now the "dirty" flag would be still 'true', but really nothing has changed (because all changes have been undone). Maybe this could be solved by having one "dirty" flag per undo record or so, but I didn't fully think through this idea yet. Of course this is a minor problem and most users would probably tolerate / not notice the simpler behaviour. Anyway, please go ahead and make the change you think fits best, so we can finally release 1.2. I spent a couple of hours with a dual 2 GHz G5 last night. Wow, what a nice machine! I gotta get me one of those. I tried to debug PortAudio / Audacity, but unfortunately I didn't solve the problem. I definitely narrowed it down: the problem is that the sound output can be configured in "digital" mode, which PortAudio doesn't currently support. Unfortunately the command to switch back to normal linear PCM mode doesn't work, nor does the command to create a converter from linear PCM samples to digital samples. Running iTunes switches the driver into linear PCM mode, so clearly it's possible. In fact, if you start Audacity and THEN launch iTunes, Audacity works great. I'll keep working on it. I might get another chance tomorrow night. I'll also take a look at the ModifyState problem in a day or two, plus a couple of other small bugs that have been reported recently. - Dominic |

This will require new invocations of Audacity to find and communicate with existing processes, which is something we've been planning to work on anyways. Once that code has been written, adding a command line argument like the one above should be fairly easy. |

Hello All, I am working on a project in which I would like to import .wav and .mp3 files into Audacity (the Linux version). That is, if the user selects a file in a file browser window, I want it to be added to the current Audacity project. Is there any mechanism for doing this in Audacity? Thanks KAM |
