H1 is when you need to work with data in Atari OS. When you just want to load a game then you can just use Alt+R = run. Hello Patrick, If you are located in Germany as your e-mail address suggests, the best way would be to navigate to the website of the "Atari Bit Byter User Club e.V. (ABBUC)" and use their forum or e-mail contact to ask for guidance. https://abbuc.de You can also search some of the popular archives with digital images of Atari software to see what's been already archived and what might be missing. a8.fandal.cz www.atarimania.com atarionline.pl http://www.mushca.com/f/atari/ http://www.a8preservation.com/#/home Michael ---------- Původní e-mail ---------- Od: Patrick Rodgers <pro...@bi...> Komu: Ken Ames via Atari800-users <ata...@li...> Hello everyone, I have a working Atari 800 with disk drive, and I have a lot of games on disk. Yes, the intent is to make compatible changes. It's more that I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't upset any one by "sniping" in the event that I ended up shipping support for these CAR types in a release before Atari800 did, based on information from Atari800's own dev line. But I'm glad that there are no issues with this so far. I'm not worried about stability, as in practice fragmentation of the CAR format has not been a problem and these new cartridge types have actually been known for some time. If it turns out that these definitions are unstable, then I'll of course hold off. For better or worse, cart.txt is the closest thing the community has to an authoritative registry for the CAR format. Petr, I think Avery was asking if these cart numbers are "stable" (i.e. will never change). Because they are only used in the development version of Atari800 until now. I guess they are, but I'm not the one to say that for certain. regards, chris On 2/1/22 10:12, Petr Stehlík wrote: > Hi Avery! > > I am not sure if you request us for giving you an OK for you doing a > (compatible) change in your own emulator? Hi Avery! I am not sure if you request us for giving you an OK for you doing a (compatible) change in your own emulator? That does not make sense to me as it's your project so you can do whatever you see fit there, so maybe I haven't understood you well? If by any chance you indeed asked whether it's OK to make compatible changes in Altirra then please yes, go ahead, that will be great, of course. If the question is about the particular cart types or reserved numbers then hopefully Tomasz Krasuski will reply you directly as he has made the particular changes. I take from your mail that I should 1) release more often and 2) include the cart.txt in the binary packages. Hi, I'm the author of the Altirra emulator and have a request I wanted to run by the Atari800 development team. Up to this point I've had a policy of not implementing cartridge type numbers in the .CAR format added by Atari800 until they had reached a release, to avoid implementing cartridge type numbers that were still being defined or otherwise not intended for widespread public use yet. However, I've recently received a request to hook up CAR type numbers 71-74, which as far as I can tell have not been released yet and are only present in the Atari800 development tree (https://github.com/atari800/atari800/blob/master/DOC/cart.txt). Additionally, the last release (v4.2.0) does not seem to include DOC/cart.txt in binary releases, which means that this information is only available in source releases -- and, in this case, one that's not even been released yet, which I'm not comfortable using without asking. Thus, the request: would it be OK to implement .CAR types that right now are only documented in the DOC/cart.txt file in the master branch, based on the information in that file? This is for interoperability with the type numbers, name, and described logic; I'm not intending to reuse the description text or the code. Currently this would be to connect Altirra's existing emulation support with the new CAR assignments for types 71-74 as well as 75. |

So we have the following joystick related command line options: -nojoystick Disable joystick -joy0hat Use hat of joystick 0 -joy1hat Use hat of joystick 1 -joy2hat Use hat of joystick 1 -joy3hat Use hat of joystick 1 -joy0 <pathname> Select LPTjoy0 device -joy1 <pathname> Select LPTjoy1 device -kbdjoy0 enable joystick 0 keyboard emulation -kbdjoy1 enable joystick 1 keyboard emulation -no-kbdjoy0 disable joystick 0 keyboard emulation -no-kbdjoy1 disable joystick 1 keyboard emulation Looks like the "-joy0" and "-joy1" could be enhanced a bit to help enforce real joysticks on platforms without USB autodetection. Normally the SDL version auto detects when USB joysticks are plugged in. But there should be a command line option to enforce that, I think. Petr |

"H:" actually means "host"; it gives the Atari disk-style access to files on the system running the emulator itself. So for example, if you have a file "GAME.BAS" sitting on your computer, you can load it from inside the Atari without having to resort to placing it inside a disk image file (an ".ATR"). e.g. via LOAD "H:GAME.BAS" If you tell us more about the "hard disks" you downloaded, we can help more. :) -bill! > My current system is a Lenovo e550 laptop with LinuxMint 20.2 OS. > > > Thanks... > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > Atari800-users mailing list > Ata...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/atari800-users > -- -bill! Hi there, I recently downloaded 4 "hard disks" for use with my Atari800 emulator and I was wondering how to use them within the emulator. I tried to mount them as D1: D2: etc...but they wouldn't load. So I figured they were hard drives to use with the H: but I have no idea on how to do that. My current system is a Lenovo e550 laptop with LinuxMint 20.2 OS. Thanks... |

It's an old MacAlly iShock. Basically, a ps1-esque controller with a few extra buttons called A, B, and C between the dpad and select/start buttons. It appears as /dev/input/js0 when I plug it in. If I run Mednafen, it can work with it for NES, SNES, Genesis, and PSX games. It shows up in lsusb as follows: Bus 001 Device 009: ID 2222:4010 MacAlly Macally iShock How is the configure process supposed to work in atari800 for such a joystick? I saw some C code that just dumbly performs blocking reads on /dev/input/js0 that reads this stick fine (see https://github.com/wizlab-it/joymap/blob/master/joymap.c). I think when it says "real joysticks" it literally means a 1970s atari joystick with a 9-pin D connector with a usb adapter. I've read of people doing this. The only option I saw for the joystick said real joystick, and it showed an option about d-hat. I tried it, it didn't work. It's not configurable, as far as I can see (eg, press buttons on my joystick to choose which buttons do what.)
