Thought I would jump in here on the 802.1P. 802.1P is priority queuing at the MAC layer. IEEE standard 802.1p is a part of the IEEE standard 802.1D. 802.1Q is the IEEE standard for vlans and is part of the IEEE standard 802.1D. There are many switches with 802.1P without 802.1Q VLAN's. Just on this subject (PS my disorder is an irrational fear of packet loss), does the tos= in sip.conf only set the TOS of the SIP signalling packets or the media traffic as well? Hopefully this is of general academic interest... I currently have many SPA-942 IP Phones and AstLinux (net4801) all connected via VLAN capable switches, networked on VLAN20. My VLAN's are routed via m0n0wall (net4801) through a "tagged only" ethernet port. But, the ethernet ports of the phones and net4801 are untagged, the switches are configured to add/strip the VLAN tags at the last few meters. This all works well... but I have an Obsessive Network Tweaking Disorder ;) . All my switches prioritize egress traffic based on the 802.1p bits added along with the VLAN ID tag. So, would I be smart in making all my internal voice traffic, VLAN tagged from phone to Astlinux (end to end)? Easily done in the SPA-942's. In AstLinux I assume: VLANS="eth0.20" EXTIF="eth0.20" Would work in PBX only mode? Question: What does AstLinux set the 802.1p priority tags to? Does asterisk sense the VLAN and set the 802.1p priority to 5 or 6 like the SPA-942 does? From a practical point of view, I doubt it makes much difference in my situation, but learning is half the fun. Any experience is appreciated. Lonnie |

I have not had to mess with FXOTUNE in quite a while but seem to recall that last time I did it, I used a recipe I found on voip-info.org ... there was a "manual" first step where you ran the program at the command line which created some sort of "sample file" ... suspect you will have to put Astlinux in R/W mode for this piece of puzzle ... then you edit the script file that executes zaptel and insert the command just after the zap card is initialized ... the idea is that on reboot, fxotune reads the sample file and tweaks the fxo ports based on the sample ... I wish I was a bit more technically astute on this issue and could give you specifics ... but the scenario I describe is I think accurate ... suspect a bit of experimentation will be required ... you might want to start with the article at http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+fxotune and see if that helps ... regards G.Hendershot _____ From: ast...@li... It should check for some files then execute if those files are found (I forget if it's in /etc/ or /etc/asterisk ). /etc/init.d/zaptel should load it though. This particular chipset uses the r8169 driver, but requires a newer one than what is included in the kernel. Florian, I don't know how soon or if we will be able to support this in the project. More than likely it will just work when a newer kernel is used. The 0.4 branch is based off an older kernel (2.6.16.12). Trunk has 2.6.20. I didn't see anything in the kernel change log to indicate any changes to the r8169 driver since that kernel release. Do you know if that hardware works on a standard linux distribution with a 2.6.20 kernel? Florian, The r8169.ko module (for the RTL8169 chipset) is already included as part of Astlinux. To verify this, you can boot up an Astlinux machine and run `modprobe r8169` and then `ifconfig` will list the interface. I myself use this driver with the Netgear GA311 NIC with nor problems. Hi folks, recently I bought a Kino-Luke system with integrated Realtek RTL8169 (1gbit NIC) and unfortunately the neccessary r1000 driver is not yet in Astlinux. The driver itself is provided by Realtek: ftp://210.51.181.211/cn/nic/r1000_v1.05.tgz I already tried to add it as new package (in tags/0.4.5) - I customized the necessary variables, of course - but I didn't succeed. So if someone of you has any advice for me I'd be quite grateful. Best regards Florian PS: Thank you for the fine work you're doing here !!
