I've recently been introduced to ASTAP and have come to really enjoy
working with it. It's a great piece of software!
I do have a suggestion. Is it possible to implement a bullseye overlay
with cross hairs that mark the center of the picture?
When I capture the image with CCDciel I have the target star in the
center of the frame as indicated by the cross hairs in that program.
However, in ASTAP, when viewing a crowded star field it is sometimes
difficult to find the star that I want to measure. I don't find the
grid overlay all that helpful.
Note you could place a RA, DEC marker to indentify a star.
I have no problem to add a circle in the middle of the image. but the centering by CCDciel or any other program has to be set pretty accurate to assure the star involved is in the middle. Else the RA,DEc marker will be more accurate.
I will build something.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I have made a mod in the existing popup menu. That was easier then making an other menu. Solving is required:
Add marker at α, δ position, will place a yellow square at the specified α, δ position. See above sample for orange star. Enabled after astrometric solve. Persistent. Position will be saved with "save settings". If a C is typed, the marker is placed at the center.*

See if this works for you. Download for this the development version 0.9.566a (Windows):
