I was trying to install your ARSperl package on a SunOS 4.1.3_U1 box. Make and make install all went in fine. But when I tried example scripts, I got this meesage, "ld.so: Undefined symbol: _catopen". Please help. Thanks. Sheng Zhu NYSERNet, Inc. sz...@ny... |

Recompile perl with ARS statically linked into the perl binary to avoid HPUX position-dependent problems. I have forgotten the details now but the above is the key. Bill Disclaimer here. |

Remedy does not ship the ARS API libraries in HP-UX "sl" format (shame on them) meaning anything linked with those libraries must be statically linked. For Perl, that means the ARS extension cannot be dynamically loaded. All is not lost, however, try the following: 1) Copy or move the ARSperl directory to .../<perl_source_directory>/ext which is where you will find POSIX, FCNTL etc. 2) For convenience, rename the ARSperl directory ARS (so it is consistent with the naming of the other Perl extensions). 3) change directories to the main perl source directory. 4) Re-run Configure. When it asks you which extensions you want statically linked, specify ARS. 5) Follow the rest of the standard Perl build procedures. What you *should* end up with is Perl 5 with the ARS extensions built into the main perl executable, not as a dynamically loaded extension. This makes the perl executable somewhat larger than a "pure" perl executable but is in no way harmful. All other "stock" Perl scripts should run without incident. At least everything works just fine on my systems (plural). For the record: I'm on K-100 boxes under HP-UX 10.01 with Perl 5.002 and HP C (the one you have to pay extra for - not the emasculated version that ships as part of the base OS). ARS version is 2.0.2. I'm new to this list, having picked up ARSperl yesterday. I am installing ARSperl on an SGI running IRIX 5.3. The example script Show_Menu.pl works fine, but any of the example scripts that need to malloc fail, with: can't malloc at Dump_Users.pl line 43. (for example). I saw some mail on this list yesterday about a malloc problem that had been fixed....is there some other fix I need to get this to work on Irix? Thanks, Eve Podet Xinet po...@xi... |

I originally had code to pad entry id's out with 0's in GetEntry, DeleteEntry, etc. As you noticed, this is wrong, since come entries have an ascii prefix (or are not 15 characters). I fixed this a while ago by removing the padding code and moving it to a ars_padEntry function if it is needed. If you grab a newer version, this should be fixed. There are also various other bug fixes. joel |

Here's a strange one: So far I've used ARSperl to manipulate a whole bunch of my schemas with a great deal of success. One schema I've never ('til tonight) queried with ARSperl has Entry-Ids that take the form "UU123456." Queries on that schema flat out don't work. I turned on the API logger, and discovered that calls to ars_GetEntry with an Entry-id of "UU0123456" were actually being passed to Remedy as "0000000UU123456." Needless to say, Remedy doesn't care for it. Is this the zero-padding thing run amok? (I'm still using a version of the module from March or so...) And why does this only happen on the one schema? - Mark -- "In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is." |

The problem you are running into is probably due to the fact that the perl functions keys(), values(), and each() return then entries of an associative array in seemingly random order. I've just done some experimenting with using @entries instead of %entries and that seems to work: @entries = ars_GetListEntry($ctrl, $schema, $qualif, 0, $IPriority, 1, # sort by priority (ascending) $IIncidnetOwner, 1, # sort by owner (ascending) ); for ($i=0; $i<$#entries; $i+=2) { printf("%d %s\n", $entries[$i], $entries[$i+1]); } This sorts first by fieldId $IPriority and then $IIncidnetOwner, both in ascending order. Then you have to use a for loop to step through the entries. (An associative array is just a normal array with the elements paired, or associated.) The for loop I have above would have the associative equivalent of: foreach $entry (keys(%entries)) { printf("%d %s\n", $entry, $entries{$entry}); } Oh, and by the way, you misspelled m-e-n-t-o-s. I've been trying to get the sort option to work in the ars_GetListEntry function, but have been unsuccessful. I've tried the example as in the 'usage' html page for ARSperl and ARSweb, but that doesn't seem to work for me. As I am *not* a very experienced perl programmer, I'm figuring it is something that I'm doing incorrectly. Basically, the example I'm trying to get to work looks like this: $sort_string->{numItems}=1; $sort_string->{sortList}[0]{fieldId}=2; $sort_string->{sortList}[0]{sortOrder}=1; %entries = ars_GetListEntry($ctrl, $schema, $qual, $max_records, %sort_string); This example should return the field-id and quick list description from my schema sorted by field-id 2, but it doesn't. I've also tried reversing '$max_records' and '%sort_string' since I wasn't sure about the order, however that didn't work either. Also, are multiple sort fields allowed? Anyone who can give me some quick pointers on how to get this to work? Thanks -- Bruce Friedman TriTeal Corporation Email: br...@tr... |

If I recall correctly, that's the place where they're storing all sorts of perl modules, so that you interface with as many C APIs as possible with perl. (You may know this, or even know more about it than I, but I just thought I'd say something about it, just in case.) Cheers. David -- David Lindes li...@sg... |

the other remedy/perl module kit contains only a handfull of functions and work on it doesn't seem to be progressing. the archive that is available is dated nov'95. |
