Don't laugh. Aything's possible, right?
I haven't had much success yet. I'm using Perl 5.003 and ARS 2.1.3.
Should I jump back a rev. on Perl?
I've attached error messages. We have two compilers to choose from: cc
(Metaware) and gcc. With either, compilation fails. Using "cc" I get
complaints about Perl's av.h. Using "gcc" I get errors from the ARS.c
file, referencing av.h again.

i use the following script frequently and have never seen an error.
it runs as an Administrator user.
#!/usr/local/bin/perl
#
use ARS;
($schema, $eid) = @ARGV;
if(!defined($eid)) {
print "Usage: $0 [schema] [entry id]\n";
exit 0;
}
$ctrl = ars_Login($SERVER, $ACCOUNT, $PASSWORD);
if(ars_DeleteEntry($ctrl, $schema, $eid) == 0) {
printf "entry $eid deleted from \"$schema\"\n";
} else {
print "Couldn't delete entry $eid from $schema: $ars_errstr\n";
}
ars_Logoff($ctrl);

I'm having trouble getting ars_DeleteEntry to work. I'm logging into the server using a user with administrator privileges and I can successfully retrieve the entry id that meets my query requirements; however when I try to delete the entry using the following statement: ars_DeleteEntry($ctrl,$schema,$entry_id); where $schema and $entry_id are set earlier in the script, I'm getting the following error from $ars_errstr: Entry does not exist in database But it does! Has anyone else had this same kind of problem? |

Thanks so much for all your help.
Your last suggestion was real helpful!
I got another problem -
When I call the function ars_SetEntry - to modify 1 field :
ars_SetEntry($ctrl, $schema,"000000000000013", $getTime, $fields{"Log"},
"138.8.132.190")) || die "Can't modify entry $ars_errstr";
It works every other time I run the program. (It is extremely
consistent!)
Do you have any suggestions??
Thanks.

ah, try: (%fields = ars_GetFieldTable($ctrl, $schema)) || die "Can't retrieve field name s $ars_errstr"; |
|
From: Miriam Y. <mir...@gs...> - 1996-12-06 17:25:56

actually ars__GetFieldTable never displays any error messages it just doesn't
store anything in the associative array - only the first time I ran the script
it did - and after that it hasn't:
%fields = ars_GetFieldTable($ctrl, $schema) || die "Can't retrieve field names
$ars_errstr";
When I print out the fields array it doesn't print anything:
foreach $fieldname (sort (keys %fields)){
print "$fieldname \n";
}
And so when I call ars_CreateEntry - it fails because it doesn't contain the
field ids:
ars_CreateEntry($ctrl, $schema, $fields{"Email From"}, $sender, $fields{"Email
To"}, $receiver, $fields{"Email Size"}, $size, $fields{"Message-ID"}, $msgid,
$fields{"Message Date"}, $date, $fields{"Submitter"}, $submitter,
$fields{"Infosec Person"}, $referred, $fields{"Employee Relations Person"},
$Relations, $fields{"History"}, $history, $fields{"Description of contents"},
$contents, $fields{"Type of information in email"}, $type,
$fields{"Assigned-to"}, "Shabbir Safdar") || die "Can't create ticket
$ars_errstr";
All help will be greatly appreciated.

Attached is one of the scripts which I am having problems with. It seems to be the GetFieldTable and GetFieldbyName - The first time I run the script it works perfectly - However the next time the script breaks at these two functions. It seems to consistently work every other time. Do you have any suggestions on how I can rectify this problem?? I also used GetFieldTable - and stored the results in an associative array but decided to try GetFieldByName and see if I'd get better results. Thanks alot. |

First of all I am quite pleased with ARSperl!!!!! I had no idea about you guys but decided to search the Internet to see if anyone used perl with Remedy - and I was pleasently surprised to see your site - I downloaded it two days ago and the installation was a breeze. I would like to modify a diary field using the function ars_SetEntry()- Will I run into problems ? Is there anything special I have to declare or do because it's a diary field? Thanks alot. G'day This should be easy. Trying to install ARSperl on Solaris2.5.1. It installed perfectly on a machine that has DBD and DBI installed on it. e.g. error from running Dump_Users.pl: error in ars_LoadQualifier at ./Dump_Users.pl line 46 Is DBD and DBI needed for the install/system to work correctly? After installing the above named perl version and reinstalling all external modules (including ARS) using the WWW/ client and sever cgi scripts would no longer successfully connect to the the ARS database. A return error message complained about an improperly formatted header line being generated. No other information was displayed. This was true for both ARSperl 1.2.2 and 1.3. Reverting back to perl5.003 (the stable release) renabled the ARS module. I was able to revert to the original distribution as I installed the 003_7 package somewhere else. I could did not troubleshoot this problem any further than this. Anyone else try the 003_7 release? Peace. |

I had the same compiling error on HP platform. I even upgraded the compiler on the HP box, no luck. Bingo! I came up against this same problem, and installing gcc solved it.

Sorry if this has been posted before: Do you need the gcc compiler to run the make command on step 2 of the ARSperl install. I am using the cc compiler, and am getting many many errors similar to the following. I am assuming that the compiler I am using cannot handle the function pointer definition, but I could use any offline comments you can give me. I am running ARS 2.02 on a SunOS 4.1.3_U1 Sparc "ARS.c", line 67: syntax error at or near symbol * "ARS.c", line 67: ARStatusStruct declared as parameter to non-function Thanks Duane D. 1.3 Notes --------- We've added some features for performance analysis. In particular, we've added the "profiling" feature to ARSperl. Now, when you call ars_Login() it initializes a profiling variable that will track the number of queries your script makes against the server. You can then access this information using the ars_GetProfileInfo() call. We send this information to syslog() automatically at the end of each script and then process the syslog file later on to keep stats on our API scripts. In this fashion, we can quickly determine which scripts are triggered the most, and which make the most queries. We can then concentrate out optimization efforts on those particular API scripts. In addition, a few new functions were added (GetFilter, GetCharMenu and GetServerStatistics). The first two are used by the WhoUsesIt.pl utility. This utility (found in the "examples" directory) is handy for locating which filter or menu is referencing a particular file, or seeing exactly what filters a particular schema uses.. etc. This cuts down the amount of time it takes to figure out a poorly documented system (what? poor documentation? not us!! :) The GetServerStatistics function was added to provide a simpler method for checking server health. I might provide a server analysis tool built around this function in a future release. Joel added a cache to the internal GetField routine. This should cut down on the number of queries made by some of the functions like GetFieldTable and such. jeff ARSperl: http://smurfland.cit.buffalo.edu/ARSperl/index.html check out the two utilities included in the package (doc is available on the web page): DumpSetup.pl (will work with 1.22 installations) archive your server definitions using RCS nightly (via cron) WhoUsesIt.pl (requires 1.3) track down menu files, process files, see what active links a schema uses.. etc. |

GetField actually returns a reference to a hash, you would need to use
"keys %$field_props", and "$field_props->{$property}". Keep in mind
that some of the values are themselves references. So you might need
to do something like $field_props->{displayList}[0]{label} to get
what you want.

This procedure does not seem to work. I am expecting a hash to be
returned, and get nothing. ars_errstr is not set either. could
you please elucidate our problem?
Here is the code excerpt:
#!/usr/local/bin/perl
use ARS;
$field=pop(@ARGV);
$schema=pop(@ARGV);
$ctrl=ars_Login(VALID INFO HERE);
$id=ars_GetFieldByName($ctrl, $schema, $field);
%field_props=ars_GetField($ctrl, $schema, $id);
print "$id\n";
foreach $property (keys %field_props){
print "$property: $field_props{$property}\n";
}
print "$ars_errstr\n";
ars_Logoff($ctrl);

Try compiling it with gcc (instead of the local cc compiler)
