[Arsperl-users] Errors opening a form

I am having trouble using the OO interface on a remedy 7 system. When I do
a "new ARS::form" or $h->openForm I get a eries of messages about caching
fields, then I see:

caching field: Ticket Status
	datatype: char
caching field: Assignee Group+
	datatype: char
caching field: Identifier
	datatype: char
caching field: Change Scheduled Start Date
	datatype: time
caching field: Priority*
	datatype: enum
Sorry. I'm not sure what to do with non-regularLists of enums.
(this enum is type "customList")

Never mind - I found the error. There is an error in Makefile.PL in my
version of ARSPerl. The CVS version has been fixed. In my (old) copy,
there is a line:

$ARS_LIBS .= " -lpthread -licuuc -licui18n";

This has been changed in CV to:

$ARS_LIBS .= " -lpthread -licuucbmc -licui18nbmc";

Once I made the changes it runs clean. I found the solution through a
google search. For some reason the archive search did not find it.

I am upgrading from API version 5.1 to 7.01 on Linux and have run into
difficulties. I downloaded the new API tarball and extracted it, then
pointed the ARSPerl Makefile.PL to the new location, did a make clean,
make and make install... no errors. When I do a use ARS in Perl, though, I
see the following errors:

Hi Monty,

You're right; 1.71 is not on sf.net; however since 1.74 is only minor
revisions up from 1.71 I would advise you to download and use that
one. That will (almost certainly) run your 1.71 scripts just fine.

Anyone have the 1.71 release of arsperl? cannot find anywhere not even =
on sourceforge anymore..I desperately need for my job, migrating old =
webapp and cannot engineer it to use new version just yet, not enough =
time to change all the code required to do so.=20

I'm trying to install ARSperl on Solaris 9 against ARS 6.03, patch 21.

SunOS xxxxx.wanadoo.nl 5.9 Generic_118558-28 sun4u sparc
SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210

I noticed in the Makefile.PL that you can choose a ARSVERSION.

When you pick a version <6.3 the artypes.ph is not copied to the
INST_LIBDIR. However, the file ARSar-h.pm still has the following line
(line 5):
  require 'artypes.ph';

However, when you run the code from the src location it will run the
same code:

/home/wesleys/ARSperl-1.90$ /opt/perl example/connect.pl
$VAR1 = bless( do{\(my $o = 4626376)}, 'ARControlStructPtr' );

The reason is that artypes.ph is present in /home/wesleys/ARSperl-1.90.

Perhaps the artypes.ph can be installed when you select a version <6.3?

connect.pl is a small script to check wheter you can connect to the ARS
server:

   use ARS;
   use Data::Dumper;

   my ($server, $account, $password, $port) = ("localhost", "User", "Pass", 123456);

   $c = ars_Login($server, $account, $password, undef, undef, $port, undef);
   print Dumper $c;


When I change the ARSVERSION to 6.3 everything works fine.

You can not be sure if an external module does the correct cleanup on
die. Therefore, a controlled shutdown is always good practice.

ARTermination() is always called on exit because ARS.xs implements a 
destructor function for ARControlStructPtr objects.

Perl also closes filehandles automatically.

If you have other resources which need cleanup, you can wrap your code 
into an "eval" block:


eval {
   ...

   ars_GetListEntry( .... );
   die "Error message\n" if $ars_errstr;

   ...
}

warn $@ if $@;

# do cleanup here


So, in my opinion, in most cases the use of "die" should be just fine.

[Arsperl-users] ARSPerl newbie: How to list field values from a form?

Hi:I am trying query a schema and print a fieldname and values for all 
records with a qualifying filter. I can't seem to figure out which 
function to use and how. This is what I have now and I get 0 records. Is 
asr_GetListEntry the right function? Does someone have a sample script 
or point me to the right one in the example dir?

$schema = "My:Alarm Base";
$qs = qq/'Category' = "Voice"/;
($qual = ars_LoadQualifier($ctrl,$schema,$qs)) ||
    die "error in ars_LoadQualifier";

The value of the field is in $entry{$field_id[3]}}.

You should also note that gmtime returns the month as numbers 0..11 
instead of 1..12.
Anyway, an easier (and problably more reliable) method for date

Without more code, and data I really can't tell.

If you want the value for a field in the form you more likely want to
use the entry hash:

$entry{'field_id'}

If you want to inspect these data structures you can use the
Data::Dumper module.

use Data::Dumper;
....

print Dumper \@field_ids;

foreach my $entry_id (sort keys %entries) {
    my %entry = ars_GetEntry($ctrl, $ARSschema, $entry_id, @field_ids);
    print Dumper \%entry;
    print datafile join("|", @entry{@field_ids} ) . "\n";

Don't remeber exaclty, sometimes ( rare )

One way to get an excellent increase in speed is to fetch all of the

You should work hard to reduce the number of ars_ calls required
because they involve the slowest part of this set up: the network.

I'll show you a modified version of your final loop that does this.
But first put your field id fetching into a loop and your field ids
into an array so that they are easier to add/remove fields and pass
the field ids on to the ars_GetEntry call.

my @field_names = ('something1', ... ,'somthingn');
my @field_ids;

foreach my $field_name ( @field_names ){
    my $field_id;
    ($field_id = ars_GetFieldByName($ctrl, $ARSschema, $field_name) ||

In the "foreach" loop, you are executing a separate API call for every 
field. It should be much faster to fetch the whole entry with one call:

   %entry = ars_GetEntry( $ctrl, $ARSschema, $entry_id, $x1,..,$xn );
   die "ars_GetEntry($ARSschema,$entry_id): $ars_errstr" if $ars_errstr;

   print datafile join("|", map {$entry{$_}} ($x1,..,$x)), "\n";

Using ars_GetListEntryWithFields (if you aren't fetching large char 
(over 255 character) or diary fields) or ars_GetMultipleEntries might 
improve the performance even a bit further.

By the way, instead of having n variables $x1,...,$xn for the field ids, 
a better solution would be to store them in an array:

my @names = ($var1,...,$varN);
my @fieldIds;
foreach my $name ( @names ){
     push @fieldIds, ars_GetFieldByName( $ctrl, $schema, $name );
}

and then call

   %entry = ars_GetEntry( $ctrl, $ARSschema, $entry_id, @fieldIds );


I'd also like to know some more details about what's going wrong with 
ars_GetFieldTable. Maybe this is a bug in ARSperl and your informations 
could help me to fix it.

I have some performance problem executing a perl script working like below:

($xn =3D ars_GetFieldByName($ctrl, $ARSschema, $var1)) || die "bla bla

#####i used ars_GetFieldByName because ars_GetFieldTable didn't work always
( i don't know why )

#######then i load the qualifier:

($qual =3D ars_LoadQualifier($ctrl, $ARSschema, $str_qual)) ||
    die "ars_LoadQualifier: $ars_errstr";

...

####i retrieve the results ( don't take too much time ):

(%entries =3D ars_GetListEntry($ctrl, $ARSschema, $qual, 0, 0)) || die
"ars_GetListEntry: $ars_errstr";

#### then i cicle for save the data in a file ( that is the bottle neck ):
