Hi all, I would like to point out there IS a compiles ppd version of ARSperl which includes the ARS API dll files. However, because the Remedy dlls are not open souce itself, they can not be hosted on sourceforge and I chose to put them on the BMC Developers Network. You'd need a (free) account to download it. Here's the link: http://developer.bmc.com/communities/docs/DOC-5262 The 1.90 ppd you found on sourceforge does NOT include the dlls. I'd suggest to use the 1.91 version from the BMC website. You can download a ppm file from http://sourceforge.net/projects/arsperl/files/ Open the "All files -> arsperl -> 1.90" tree item and download "ARSperl_190_701.zip", which is ARSperl 1.90 compiled against the 7.0.1 ARS API, but should work nonetheless with a 7.1 server. 'lo listers Need some help. I want to install ARSPerl for Windows (XP Prof) on my PC. The only download I find is on the net is ARSperrl-1.91.tgz. It seems one has to have the ARS API kit installed, which I don't have. Is there a way around this? i.e. some PPM download, or other install methods? I use ActivateState 's Perl 5.8.9 Tom Roos Disclaimer http://www.shopriteholdings.co.za/pages/1019812640/disclaimer/E-mail-Disclaimer.asp |

You might replace line 243 of "AES.xs": ctrl = (ARControlStruct *)safemalloc(sizeof(ARControlStruct)); by ctrl = (ARControlStruct *)MALLOCNN(sizeof(ARControlStruct)); I don't know if this would help, but it might be worth a try. The ars_GetListEntry function has those parameters too. Moreover, if no such parameters are passed, the sort order of the form should indeed be used. I once made the mistake of putting the return values from ars_GetListEntry into a hash, which has the effect that the sorting information gets lost, even if the entries are returned in the correct order: %entries = ars_GetListEntry( ... ); Thilo Brad Fike wrote: > LJ, > > Long time no talk. > > I normally sort the records on my own but you can use the > ars_GetListEntryWithFields function. LJ, Long time no talk. I normally sort the records on my own but you can use the ars_GetListEntryWithFields function. It has some optional sort parameters. http://www.soton.ac.uk/~_remedy/ARSperl/manual/ars_GetListEntryWithFields.html -Brad On Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 5:15 PM, LJ Longwing<lj....@gm...> wrote: > I'm interested in having the records pulled back from a query be sorted. I'm interested in having the records pulled back from a query be sorted. I set the sort order on the form in question, but that doesn't seem to affect the sort of the results I get via ARSPerl. Any and all assistance is appreciated. |

Tim,
I had the same problem. But only if I was using the 5.x api libs and not using portmapper to connect to the server.
Kind Regards Conny

Betreff: [Arsperl-users] Segfaults on Debian Lenny
Is anybody else running ARSperl on Debian 5.0 (lenny)? I've got it working just fine (v1.91, with .deb files and everything, which I'm happy to share), except that when the connection to the server is closed, I get a segfault. I don't know why this is happening, and my early attempts at tracking the problem down have been unsuccessful.
Before I tried to get a full bug report out there, I just wanted to see if anybody else had run into this.

I'm running Debian 32bit inside a Virtualbox VM with ASPerl 1.91. I'm updating config information on a server with it. Sofar no segfaults. I'm using the OO Layer functions. I haven't tried the old way. An Strace of the perl script might help. Sincerely, - Philipp |

Is anybody else running ARSperl on Debian 5.0 (lenny)? I've got
it working just fine (v1.91, with .deb files and everything, which I'm
happy to share), except that when the connection to the server is closed,
I get a segfault. I don't know why this is happening, and my early
attempts at tracking the problem down have been unsuccessful.
Before I tried to get a full bug report out there, I just wanted
to see if anybody else had run into this.

This is a problem of the underlying C API, so it cannot be fixed in ARSperl. That being said, I've encountered this situation too. Here's how I worked around it: Create a filter on "Submit" on the join form containing a "Message" action of type "Note". The message text should contain information which allows to uniquely identify the newly created entry, e.g. a previously generyted GUID. The message content is returned in the $ars_errstr variable after the ars_CreateEntry call, which can be evaluated by your script. If you absolutely need the Request-ID of the created entry, that's a bit trickier, but can be achieved the following way: You might push the Request-IDs of the base entries (which are known at the time when "push fields" is executed) to some dummy form which exists only for this purpose. You can then output the base IDs via a message filter action on the dummy form. A short summary: I'm having problems with ARS::ars_CreateEntry ()
returning a useful return value when it is creating an entry in a join
form/table. This appears to be a systemic problem, and I'm not really
sure what to do about it. I'm curious if anybody else has found a
solution to this.
Some background: I'm our current resident ARSperl developer at
Stanford. We use Remedy to handle our Incident Management and other
related areas, and we're starting to build a CMDB based on the same
infrastructure. I've built up the general interface to handle all of
this, based on (at the lowest level) the ARSperl interface.
I'm currently working on the engine to populate the BMC CMDB
product based on spec CMDBf data (this is XML, for those that don't know).
The CMDB is based very heavily on join tables; pretty much *everything*
you write to is a join table of some sort or another, and there's no
real way to work around this.
However, our testing has found a major problem with this: it is
impossible through the API to write directly to a join table. Instead,
when information is offered to the join table (via ars_CreateEntry ()),
underlying work-flow creates the appropriate entries *indirectly*. This
generally works - that is, the entries are created appropriately, both in our test
forms and in the default BMC_CMDB forms. But the correct value is not
returned, according to the API docs:
http://www.arsperl.org/manual/ars_CreateEntry.html
On success, we're supposed to get a request ID. On failure, we
get undef. In this case, we get a *blank* request ID. All we can really
say about this is that we can tell the difference between a failure and a
success (though in this case, it leaves us in a situation of "we know we
wrote, but we don't know *where* we wrote", which I would argue subverts
the API pretty badly).
So - what to do about it? I've started writing up some wrapper
code in my own libraries that, if we get a blank return code, goes out and
tries to find the entry again based on the data offered during the create
(dying if 0 or 2+ entries are found); but this doesn't seem like the right
general solution. This seems like something that the ARSperl libraries
should take care of on its own, though I have to admit that I don't really
know how it *would* do so.
Advice, thoughts, and code examples are welcome. I'm more than
happy to elaborate as well.

Another method is to embed the control records for all environments in the code, keyed to a server specific value that you can access, like hostname or IP address. This can make deployment much easier, as it reduces the need to coordinate control records on the servers and the need to change the workflow arguments. For more security (since you are embedding your passwords in a text file), encrypt the values and pass in the encryption key (which could be the same for each server) as a parameter as you are doing with the login information now. When the process runs, decrypt each value, use it, then drop the variables. Kelly Logan Senior Remedy Developer Cybernetic Solutions, <http://www.cybersolution.us/> Inc. Rusty / Steve, The arguments for ars_GetListEntry are since AR System version 5: ars_GetListEntry(ctrl,schema,qualifier,maxRetrieve=0,firstRetrieve=0,...) So that explains the additional 0... I will update the documentation + the example (which were obviously still < v5...) Steve,
It's been a while since I used ARS but the help pages for ars_GetListEntry has missed an argument, plus I've always sucked the data into a hash. Here's my code snippet.
my %entries = ars_GetListEntry($ctrl->ctrl(), $schema, $lq, 0, 0,
[
{columnWidth=>20, separator=>'\t', fieldId=>$ftarca{"ARCT_T_WorkReq_"}},
],
$ftarca{"ARCT_T_WorkReq_"}, 2);
I've found that I always had to include the extra '0' in the call to make this work, sadly this is the simplest example I have.
Then I take those list of tickets and get the data I'm looking for
foreach my $t (sort keys %entries) {
# Grab the fields needed per ticket.
my %data = ars_GetEntry($ctrl->ctrl(), $schema, $t, $ftarca{"ARCT_I_Instructions"},
$ftarca{"ARCT_I_ActionTaken"}, $ftarca{"ARCT_I_SubmitCategory"},
$ftarca{"ARCT_TD_CreateDate"}, $ftarca{"ARCT_T_HCMinToComp_"},
$ftarca{"ARCT_TD_CreateWW"}, $ftarca{"ARCT_TD_ResolveWW"},
$ftarca{"ARCT_T_Region"} );
## <snip> ##
}
I'm sure there are better, more efficient ways to make this work, this is what I've done in the past.
Hope it helps,
Rusty
