If you think its worth exploring the performance and no one has any objections I could try implementing a JOGL version as this could open up a lot of options for sfx. Dropping to 10 frames is not acceptable so I guess the alternatives, as things stand with Java rendering, are have an option to disable the weather layer and use an icon somewhere on the screen to denote the time of day and weather. Cheers Jim >I don't suppose you noted the difference in frame rates. In my side as I told there is an important frame rate drop. From 20 to 10. And it is really noticiable. >I was disappointed by the loss of frame rate especially when I started=0D >checking for inspiration what the super nintendo used to be able to do=0D >(Breath of Fire 2 had some cool forest effects). > >While I think the performance and capabilities would be greater I am=0D >reluctant to suggest moving to Opengl with JOGL because it would be a=0D >big rewrite of the code and a steeper learning curve. TankEnMate were speeding up rendering code. Perhaps his optimizations could speed up your code too... About moving to JOGL, I have nothing against. Just I really lack of time to do it, but the change won't be hard (=0D supposing you already know JOGL) because GFX usage is really limited to only=0D 3-4 classes.
