> If my dwarf listens to ppl speaking Sindarin, I'll first hear messed up > sentences (replaced letters, ...), then after a long time my Sindarin __________________ 1ST part ---------- I have interesting idea about that. If character doesn't know particular=20 language at all, whole word is messed up with simple encryption like rot1= 3 or=20 sth. Imagine that I say "food" - after coding you'll hear (just an exampl= e)=20 "burak". And you will ALWAYS hear "burak" whenever I say "food" . I can p= oint=20 at food and pronounce it... With some basic intelligence you'll be able t= o=20 determine what I mean. Moreover, it allows some basic communication witho= ut=20 actually knowing speaker's language. I think this solution would be damn=20 funny. I just hope I explained it clear enough. Possible disadventage - once player discovers that particular language is= =20 encrypted with say rot14683 he can modify client , add simple script and=20 bypass that Possible remedy (heh :-))), or rather workaround: Every word can be coded with different code (for example word "abc" =3D 1= + 2 +=20 3 =3D ROT6, "daba" =3D 4 + 1 + 2 + 1 =3D 8 =3D ROT8 and so on). It would= make=20 cheater's life somewhat harder. _______________________________ 2ND PART -------------------- To make language knowledge more realistic, if character knows language=20 partially, words coded with rot 5,6,7,8,9, and 10 are sent to him decrypt= ed. =2EIt would be just like in real life - you understand some words, and so= me not. NOTE: various real world languages have various (obviously!) words. Some=20 particular letters are more or less often. I mean.. Hmm, how to say.. For example english could (no idea if it's true) more words with sum of 6= than=20 french. So if player tries to communicate with french instead of english,= =20 other side would understand more or less than in english. It's some kind = of=20 cheat. In general, if we ever decide to try this way, we should make statistical= =20 research about at least several most common (amongst Arianne potential=20 players) languages. Any insights will prove extreamally usefull. ANyway, we can skip 2ND part, and there will be no problem. |
