The fact that Arianne is GPL protects it forever from commercialization. However, I will admit, I've wondered what it would be like if Arianne were a "for profit" game. Arianne is free and must remain free inorder to accomplish its goals in the end. However, that does not mean that a company cannot use our code to run a server that you must pay to play on. If that ever happens, then they will need developers to keep it working and improve it. I would love for this to happen. That way I could get paid for spending my time working on Arianne! Something I already do. Remember just because a company runs the server for money does not mean that the code is not free, and it does not mean that there cannot/will not be free servers to play on. I think we need to look at this a little more closely. Who among us does not want to be paid to work on Arianne? Also, Arianne will get better faster if this is so. All that we need to do is sign a contract that allows all the freedoms for Arianne that we want (such as: code stays free, servers can be run by anyone for free). My vote is: let's look into this more. ===== "Teach a man to make fire, and he will be warm for a day Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life." - John Hrastar __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
