I think players should be able to select gender from the outfit settings. Available body types and outfits will be shown according to gender selection. Also, NPCs would be able to determine how to speak to players. For example, Dale wouldn't call male players "sweetcheeks" (if he is heterosexual ;)).

too much text in quest files and requires to write in 2 genders from now on. maybe someone has a better idea, but i don't see a simple way to achieve it.
Actually, it would be really easy to get gender based on which body outfit the player is using. With changes to the outfit there are only going to be 4 different body types which will make it even simpler. Game text could just be slowly refactored.

In the most cases you wouldnt need to duplicate the text, you could instead use a placeholder like say... %playergender% and the client itself could recognize that and then replace it with the apporiate pronouns.

gender selection is (probably) good idea, cos it only lead to filter implementation in outfit window of client; other idea about splitting male/female chatting can be realized too, but what to do with magic outfits?
What would we gain from the gender? There aren't many NPCs who care about it. Are there others besides Dale?
The gain of limiting the outfits is not huge, and would require sorting the outfits (what to do of the more neutral outfits then?) according to gender. We'd lose the possibility of cross dressing - I don't think a large proportion of players want to do that, but keeping the possibility costs nothing. (And playing "Eowyn" would have some tradition, without needing to go to minority preferences)
I don't know that there are any REAL benefits to using gender. But, in my mind it's more "fun".
I am reworking base/body and clothing sprites so that all use the same step pattern and all can be used together.
With the new outfit system there are only 4 base/body sprites: 2 "male" and 2 "female". The player can choose between 8 different skin colors with lightness/darkness.
