when you are poisoned by something, you can't walk with looking into the right direction and you just lose 1HP while being poisoned, not more. Deluge and me tested that on testserver, 27.05.2013, 12.16 servertime.
The actual poisoning isn't an issue. The reason why we were losing only 1 HP at a time and it was taking a long time to go away was because we used fierywater.

and when you drink an antidote, you are not poisoned any longer but you still walk laggy on the first move
