Areca Target Email Setup Locks Up - Linux Mint 17 32b

Greetings,

Instead of presenting the email setup popup window
the Areca application locks up when I go to 
***edit target/Post-processing*** and select the ***email***
option in the popup dropdown menu. To recover I need to
force Areca to shut down and restart it. I don't believe
this failure is caused by a permissions issue as I am 
running Areca as root. I am running Linux, Mint 17, 
Mate 32 bit version which is based on Ubuntu 14. 
I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my email program.

I am wondering if I need to set some options in Linux
to get the email setup function to work?

I also wonder if this is a known bug?

I discovered what I needed to do to work around this issue.

I was starting Areca from the Mint Menu with superuser priviledges. The problem was solved by starting Areca directly from a superuser terminal.
