each one of these is pretty old (and old-style) UPS from times when they did
not cut so many corners that nothing left; this BX crap is the very opposite
and no sane person would buy these things, but, well, here we are

We have never had BX1600MI, but we probably have been lucky enough to 
not encounter any unsolvable issues with apcupsd + APC UPSes. The worst 
case would be finding the right settings in apcupsd.conf and/or the 
right cable. Below is a sampling of models we currently have in our 
facility and corresponding settings from apcupsd.conf. I understand 
MODELs as reported by apcupsd are somewhat simplistic, but that's all I 
know how to retrieve via command line (If there is a way to get a better 
model ID without crawling behind server racks to peek at the back of the 
unit, please let me know).
