That should call self-test via software, it is also, usually, possible to 
call that via front-panel button(s) using some combination of how long you 
keep something pressed etc.

Or simply unplug it from the mains.

Thanks for the advice.

As there is no audible or visual alarm on the unit itself, APC are
refusing to proceed with a warranty claim unless I demonstrate,
using Powerchute, that these events occur or a self-test fails. I
can't run Powerchute because I don't have any Windows machines. I'll
probably just return it to the vendor according to consumer law,
without doing a warranty claim.

In the meantime, APC won't be interested but for my own interest is
it worth doing the "2) Perform self-test" of "apctest"?
