Hello, The simple answer is that a serial/USB cable is absolutely necessary. The more complete answer is that none of the developers ever had a network interface so we have no idea what it is, how it works, or how to program it. With apcupsd the master is normally physically connected to the UPS via serial or USB the slaves can all be connected by standard TCP/IP no special network cards needed.
