I had an APC model BE750G connected to my Linux Slackware64 14.1 computer. apcupsd worked just fine. I've now swapped that to a BE550G, but now have COMMLOST. The difference is that the BE750G has the usual RJ45 connector for data on the UPS side and a USB connector for the computer end. The BE55G has 3 ports on the UPS, labeled as shown in quotes below: RJ45 - "Network Out" RJ45 - "Network In" USB Type B Jack - "PowerChute USB Port" There were no RJ45 jack marked "data" like on my other APC UPSes. The USB Type B jack is square like that on the printer-end of a USB cable. I've plugged in what I believe is the cable for that UPS (but it could be a regular 'ole printer cable) into this Type B jack and the other end into my computer, but there is no communication. Will the USB Type B jack on this UPS work with apcupsd? Do I have to specify some UPSCABLE other than 'usb' in my apcupsd.conf (simple, smart)? Is this a decidedly APC specific cable and a regular USB printer cable won't work? Need help! Thanks. |
